People GT 300i / Kymco GTI 300i Steering Bearings
« on: October 16, 2021, 06:34:54 PM »
My GT300i People developed some alarming handling characteristics – it tries to ‘tuck in’ on low speed turns. After jacking up the front end,  turning the bars from side to side I diagnosed notched steering bearings needing replacement. The motorcycle was involved in a minor accident with the previous owner – I suspect this as the cause. Does anyone have any experience in buying and replacing steering bearings? I like the idea of switching to taper roller bearings I think they would offer better handling and I wouldn’t have to search for those pesky  tiny spherical bearings if I accidently dropped some during installation.  I have tried a quick search on line but cannot find any spherical or roller bearing kits. The Kymco dealer is asking $90 for both upper and lower bearings which is insanely expensive compared to aftermarket taper roller kits. If there isn’t a kit made specifically for the GTi300 where would I measure to see if a kit for a different motorcycle would fit? Thanks in advance.

You know....you're gonna fit right in here!

Stig

I hope so..  i have two of Kymco's finest and i know my enthusiasm far outweighs my talent.
So, back to the job at hand.. all debris cleared engine degreased - over the weekend i'll take it for a 15 mile ride to my tavern of choice and report back my findings...

But.....what if they're as big as 'taters?!!

Well, the heat from the Engine coupled with the oil from the leak,  added to the slicing properties of the placement of the starter motor and bolt, could - in certain conditions - provide the perfect storm of results to warrant carrying Salt and Vinegar.

Great Idea.. most of the fragments fell inot the bellypan as i was extracting them. This is what i could catch. I'm guessing i must have ridden thru a construction zone at some point..

I changed the oil and filter along with my aor filter. Pleased with the result i took my GG300i on a 140 mile round trip. The morning after my return a drip of black oil was underneath the scooter. I checked the oil filter and drain plugs -all tight. The next day 2 drops of oil. So i clean the underside of the engine. The next day no drops. It looks like the leak is from the top of the engine. So, today i take off the seat to look. Its very dirty under the throttle body. As i'm cleaning, i keep finding very grimey chunks of something that looks broken. I take off the air filter and find more hard chunks under the starter motor. I can't find anything broken though. When i was the chunks to identify them. I think they are chunks of the roadway kicked up by the tites but not caught by the skirt. Its amazing how many i find. I still can't find the source4 of the minor oil leak.

I have a 2008 or 2009 Kymco 250 people which i literally bought from a barn. It was demi-assembled. In my other post i detailed finding an unerdsized jet in the carburetor. Its always made a really funny clunking noise when going over curbs. I traced this to rotten silencer internals.  Trying to find a replacement exhaust system is like trying to find rocking horse manure. Its just not out there. When i did find an OEM part i was quoted over $400. So, heres the story of how i cobbled i replacement together.
First i bought a generic silencer for $50 from AliExpress.
Then i bought a Piaggio MP3 125 cc middle pipe for $20 - also from Ali express . Then to make it all work a 38mm to 32mm exhaust gasket.
I didn't plan on the overhang so have to ger creative on an exhaust hanger. It needs to be 70mm deep and 50mm long. If you have any ideas let me know. It spunds a bit too loud for my tastes but functions. The best part about it is the weight saving. The scoot is much easier to move around the garage, to park and to ride.  Here are some pictures, let me know what you think??

Well Guys, i think i may have found the culprit but have no idea how it got this way. When i took a magnifying glass to the main jet it was clearly stamped 106. So, i have a tray of cvk 24/30 jets in the garage. I picked out a 130 jet but quickly found the actual jet was too big for the housing. After some (not so very precise) measuring i discovered my CVK 30 carb jas CVK 26 jets..I had a CVK 26 120 jet so i fitted it and Viola, no more bogging down. It does pop and bang on the overrun so its still way too lean. Now i have to find the standard jet size for a 250 people and somewhere to buy these jets in CVK 26 sizes....

This is a very well written and informative post.  You are correct, i have been searching for a CVK 30mm rebuild kit with no luck. Do you have any pictures of the 'needle jet' you describe?. Also do you have any information on adapting a Harley or any other CVK for Kymco use?

People 250 / Kymco 250 People Bogs Down
« on: August 17, 2020, 10:04:02 PM »
I bought a Kymco People 250 in various piecies for a great price.
I've managed to re-assemble most of it and i have got it running and revving. However, as soon as I sit on it to try and pull away it dies. I took the carb apart and blew out the holes. I changed the idle jet to 40 but when i looked at the main jet it was only 106. This can't be right as my Gy6 150 is 105.  I tried to fit a 125 jet from my gy6 stash but the thread is too big. Do any of you know where i can buy a 125 jet and what do i ask for??
Thank You..

During the process of buying a new disc I came across this parts Manual.
Unlike the Kymcoparts Version, this version is really clear.
