2012 Super 8 2t Signal Lights - mods
« on: August 18, 2013, 02:50:25 AM »
Hey guys - I was just wondering why is our kymco super 8 comes with bolt on signal lights - when we have pretty cool light built into a plastics frame?

Has anyone modded theirs to move the lights from bolt on to actual in plastics lights? Or perhaps outfitted them with LED lights synchronizing them with bolt on?

I have been thinking about performing a little surgery and transplanting the winker bulbs into the faux fairing lights. It looks like it can be done with minimal effort. Honestly the only reason I have not completed that yet is because when I wrecked it there was all ready way too much to repair.

I am very interested in knowing details of the switch over. My scoot is my everyday transportation so this information would be very useful to me also.

I am planning to do the mod over the  winter - or should I say one of many mods ;-)

Thanks to Naughty Lee - for his excellent thread - I am planning to implement most of his mods and put it into one thread for Kymco Super 8 crowd.

But I wanted to hear from more experienced crowd about light mods - is there any safety reasons not to do it?

I am planning to use 12V Cree bulbs - so visibility is certainly not going to be a problem. - Any thoughts people?

I hooked my lights directly to the battery through a toggle switch. I tried two different bulb types. Regular led t15 and they worked fine. I tried a good cree bulb and it got so hot it started to melt the plug in just a few minutes.

This one worked: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087XOTWW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0087XOTWW&linkCode=as2&tag=kinderinfo1-20

Thanks Pimpy1 - I was planning to use same bulbs that worked for you.
I used them before and they run pretty cool.

2 Questions:
Did you actually install them inside the body or on the bolt-ons?
Did you replace the main headlights with leds as well?

Also for everyone information - I installed 9AH gel Battery by TMS in mine - fits perfectly - and starts MUCH better then stock.

I only replaced the plug-in lights circled in blue.  I wired those to the battery and put a switch down at my left knee. One like this.

You know - those don't even light up for me  :-[

Are those like running lights?

They don't work on the USA scoots. That is why I wired them direct just for more light.  They are used for short term parking in Europe.

Dang. Where you been hiding. All the tobacco fields get rained out up there again and you've been draining them all month.

Bit of an update:
Got T10 lamp sockets:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DC4YSWC/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got yellow t10 SMD bulbs - for turn signals:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AAQRW1E/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got yellow t10 SMD bulbs - for daylight lamps:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00877SL2M/ref=gno_cart_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A12J7DMK6HQWCS
Looking for proper LED to replace break light. - My Kymco turns both headlight and taillight as soon as the key in the ON position - Kind of sucks - should really go on when the engine is on.

Also planning to open up instrument panel to replace instrument lights with leds as well as possibly add a digital tachometer.
Still looking for a good one.

Also thinking of adding a storage box -

and rigging this solar charger - to maintain battery on to of the box:
