Winter Weight Gear Oil ??
« on: October 17, 2013, 09:51:15 PM »
My LIKE 200i owner's manual stipulates SAE 90 gear oil.
I'm using Honda Pro 80W90 gear oil at present (recommended by my dealer service manager)
For winter riding here in Ohio (temps 5-F > 20-F frequently) should I be using a different gear oil ?
I've used RedLine Gear oil in a 4 sp. manual VW Bus in the winter with much easier shifting.....
Is there such an oil for scoot gears?
Thanks, Stig

Stig: No worries my friend. You're all set @ 75-90 tranny oil. I'm a Amsoil fanboy myself, but it's not cheap or easy to find. Go to your local Auto Zone & pick-up either some Royal Purple or some Mobil 1 & don't look back!

I agree with MassScoot. If you use a good quality 75-90 Synthetic you're all set year round.

Stig, it won't work if you get beamed up by aliens again... use what they use in space shuttles...

Stig: I also use Amsoil 10W-40W scooter oil here:

http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/motor-oil/4-stroke/formula-4-stroke-synthetic-10w-40-scooter-oil/

But I think you mentioned you were going to buy this anyway. Try & find a dealer on Amsoil's website. You'll save a few bucks. I bought 2 cases of engine oil, then a case of tranny oil last year. You'll be all set! I also like Mobil 1 as well, which you can find anywhere.

My dealer uses nothing but AMS Oil for all their bikes they sell and service. AMS is good stuff. This is what the mechanic at the dealership uses on my bike.
