B&W 250 Gear Oil??
« on: September 23, 2013, 06:51:51 PM »
I'm trying to change the gear oil in this scooter. The manual says use straight SAE 90 oil, but I can't find that. I can only find 80-90, 75-140, or ranges like that. Does it matter much??

Gear lube 80-90 will work just fine.

80W90 is relatively cheap and easy to find too.

That is  not a responsible reply.   :(

Engine oil is different from gear oil and will not serve the needs of the gears.

Use 80w90 gear oil.

For what it's worth, Engine Oil might work okay. In the past, Honda and possibly other manufacturers have specified 10W30 or 10W40 in the final drive of machines of similar power and size. Might have to change it more often. I personally would use 80W90 even in an old Elite 250 for the reassurance of a gear oil additive pack.

On the streets of Pleiku and DaNang, S. VN. it smelled like they were riding French fries and Chicken McNuggits.....and the shrimp had a little Valvoline flavor to them.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.
