Loping idol on my Like.
« on: November 16, 2013, 07:19:49 AM »
Hey everyone, I was just wondering if the idol on my Like is correct or there's something wrong with it. When I'm sitting at a stop light it has kind of a loping idol. It's not smooth like I hear from motorcycles. It sounds a bit like the idol slows a bit every few seconds. Any info on this would be great.

Thanks everyone and ride safe, mscmkr

I haven't noticed this on mine. Mine is very steady. I don't know that I would describe a single cylinder bike as smooth though. I can feel it running through the handlebars and seat for example.

I have a tach on my LIKE 200i - I have noticed that the idle speed fluctuates. (cold, warm, hot - it fluctuates)
The idle starts out at @ 2200 on a cold start, settles to @ 1940 within 30 seconds, and fluctuates once there between 1920 and 1820 RPM's. I do not hear a distinct "lope" - but when I came to a stop light the first time after installing an Iridium spark plug I do remember thinking to myself, "the idle is smoother now and the idle speed has increased some!" I did not have my tach installed yet, so have no idea what the stock, pre-Iridium idle speed was. It is supposed to be 1700RPM +/- 100 RPM. I have never seen 1700 since putting in the tachometer.
What I am saying is that- I do not notice a lope now (with the Iridium plug) - but I remember distinctly thinking the "idle has smoothed with this new Iriridium plug in there." Maybe I noticed a 'lope' before, maybe it was something else. It was not a dramatic change - but it was enough to make me stop worrying that the new scoot might die at a stop light if I didn't play with the throttle.

So, my question to you is : "Do you have an Iridium plug in your LIKE?" If not, you might give one a try. (Denso and NGK both make one for the LIKE 200i)

If you already have one in there - I'd suggest you turn up the radio and quit worrying about any little lope in our one-banger scoot. 'Tis the nature of this mighty beast! ;)

That's the thing, this mighty beast is still new to me. First thing on 2 wheels I have ever owned. I'm at almost 500 miles now. When I'm zipping around at 40 to 50mph it's smooth as silk. Always starts up quick and doesn't seem to have any issues. Just wanting to keep it that way. And of course the dealer I bought it from pretty much sucks. I really don't trust them. Oh well.

One cool thing about our little Likes, everywhere I park it I have people taking pictures of it and asking me about it. I had an older gentleman taking several pics of my bike in the parking lot of a diner the other day. Made his wife stand there and wait for several minutes while he was doing it. Lots of compliments to.

Thanks for the input and be safe out there, mscmkr

Yes, it's a conversation starter. I've even had people ask me about it when I'm at a traffic light. Had the pics thing too, but only once.

I had a city bus driver slid his window open in traffic and tell me how sharp my ride is. He wanted to know about gas mileage and how fast will it go? The two-tone paint gets a lot of great comments.  ;D

Try initializing the TPS and ISC (throttle position sensor and idle speed control). That should stop the up and down idle.
