You can use a tachometer to watch your engine work (with a quick glance when not in traffic!) and check your idle speed (NOT that you can adjust it) These little tachometers are fairy inexpensive and easy to install. (Amazon)
I used red foam-backed adhesive (automotive quality) 3M tape to stick it near the steering head opening. Routed the wire into the steering head opening, behind & via the help of the glove box opening, under the floor then up into the engine bay. White plastic zip tied to the frame. The red wire is then wrapped several turns around the spark plug lead. I used a (split) cable cover to secure it on the plug wire. The tach senses the pulse through the plug wire and reads out on the screen. There are no other connections necessary....and the whole lot is easily removed with no marks left on your scoot if it craps out.
Like most of these tachs, it gives a fairly accurate engine RPM while your scoot is running, and it will record your total engine time, and give a quick read of the highest RPM from your last ride when you turn off the key.
If you do install one and you also add an Iridium spark plug - please give us a tach reading before and after you install the Iridium plug. Very curious to see what effect the Iridium spark plug has on the idle speed!
We have several how-to's for the LIKE 200i on this forum (valve adjustment, spark plug install, air filter, etc.)
No questions are too dumb - even if sometimes the answers are a little furry.
