Wierd noise
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:30:19 PM »
When I try and accelerate rapidly I hear a gurgly sporadic muffler like noise - its like the scooter is telling me "don't turn the throttle so much I can only provide so much power".  If I accelerate moderately I do not get the noise.  I noticed this noise as soon as I rode off from the dealer and ever since.  Am I hallucinating or is my scooter really talking to me??  Anyone else experience this?  This blue background is TERRIBLE.  Wonder if any Kymco folks ever read these boards??  Seems like they should and would, but never see any postings - I find scooter importers like to keep a distance from their customers - too bad.

How many ps250 sold in the USA in 2008?  Over 500? Under?  take a guess I dare you.

Does it make you angry??  Does me.  I need a step by step to change it if possible.

You may need to adjust the mix.  Could be running too rich.  Just an idea.  I don't mind the blue. :)

this box is still blue that i am typing in - this is the blue box i despise and would like to change - I did orange theme - looks the same as default to me - always been a lot of orange in here - Halloween.

Now I need to know  how I adjust mixture!!  Would be nice if it was through the hole in pet carrier.

Haha!  The mix screw is usually just forward of center on the side of the carb.  First take note of the original position, screw it all the way in and take note of exactly how many turns, so you can always revert back!  Then put it back in the original position and make 1/4 turn changes at a time.  You are looking for a resposive 1/4 throttle snap from idle.  It shouldn't bog or make any "wierd noise".  It's always a good idea to do a plug chop when your done to make sure you're in the "safe" zone.

plug chop?

Maybe if I could increase the size of the white font the blue background wouldn't aggravate me so.

You put in a brand new spark plug and fun the bike at only the throttle position you want to check.  Then you kill the engine while still holding this throttle position until it fully dies.  Then you pull the plug and examine it.  This is your "window"  into what the engine is doing at that particular throttle position.  You only need to run the bike for about 1 mile.  You are looking for a nice caramel color around the base of the center electrode, down inside.  It's hard to see down in there, that's why they call it "chopping" because to get a real good look you have to cut the plug.  Do a google search of plug chop and you will find lots of information.  It's not hard and it is the only real way to tell how the motor is really running.  You don't really have to chop the plugs either, you just have to be able to see way down in there.

This screw changes the air to fuel ratio at low speeds. It shouldn't need much adjustment, but the way to do it is to turn the screw very slightly (1/8th turn) and see if the idle speed goes up or down. If it goes down, turn the screw back 1/8th turn to where it started, then 1/8 turn in the other direction and see if the idle speed goes up or down. If it goes down, turn it back to where you started since you didn't need any adjustment! If the idle speed goes up, continue turning the screw in 1/8th turn steps until the idle speed is at a maximum. If it starts to go down, turn it back to get the maximum idle speed.

You may need to go back to the idle speed screw to lower the idle speed if it's now too fast. So the basic procedure is to set the fuel/air mixture to give you the fastest idle, then use the idle speed adjustment to set the speed to the lowest rpm that gives you smooth running.

plagiarized sorry

does this ring true?

The gurguling noise is probably the air injection system Kymco uses to help clean up the exhaust. 1980s  air head BMWs had this same system. sounds kinda pop-corny or gurgling on accel. Check out you parts manual you can see the reeds for air induction into the exhaust at the cylinder head.
