Cold running problems

Hello,

I am having running problems in the cold. The bike will start up, however when I pull the throttle it slowly starts moving and then cuts out after less than a metre. I can't let it sit to warm up as it cuts out, if I apply throttle with the brake on it reaches a point and cuts out. After ten minutes of applying the throttle I can actually get going and eventually move at a speed of about 20mph so have been driving around in a car park too warm up. However upon getting onto the road I hit 30mph and then it slowly decreases in speed too a halt. Any ideas? I thought cleaning out the carb might help however Im not too sure how too go about that? All I know is that after start up I can't move off the spot as it cuts out.

Mostly yes as the weather has started too turn, however I have noticed in the last month or so the power has decreased?

Any idea's?

If that's the problem...  The carburetor has two screws for air and fuel... you need to increase the fuel part... you can google "how to adjust scooter carburetor"... or in Youtube... they have lots of tutorials there...

I thought cleaning out the carb might help however Im not too sure how too go about that?

Sometimes an in-place carb flush will make a difference.  Rotate up the carb fuel bowl 90° vent tube and spray in some carb cleaner while the engine is running. A plastic drinking straw extension may be helpful.  Might also check valve lash, and consider installing an enricher switch.

Have you checked the diaphragm it's under the cover on top of the carb if it's sticking or has a hole in it will cause rev issues.

If you can find a way to heat the motor with a heater or a 75 wt light bulb the scoot will start easy.
I keep a 75 wt bulb close to the scoot for theam cold days. and I make sure the battery is at full charge. starts hard at times but if I just let it worm up and runn for a few im all good. also you may need to raise the needle or lower the needle in the carb. and find the right gas to air mix.

That's all you need to do.  A 50cc scoot is difficult in cold weather simply because it's too feeble to deal with cold, thick oil.  Your solution is practical & cheap!  PS: if the electric starter can't do the job in winter, use the kick starter.  It usually works just fine in the cold.
