Easiest scooter to work on?
« on: March 02, 2014, 07:32:47 PM »
Hopefully this post isn't miscategorized.

In general my People 250 is much, much easier to work on in many ways compared to the smaller Yamaha Vino 125 I had before, where some things such as checking the valves was nearly impossible. But some things still seem like there's quite a bit of room for improvement, like having easy access to the spark plug or the brake reservoirs.

I was wondering if anybody knew of any scooters that are particularly well designed in terms of being easy to work on? Or otherwise what the easiest ones are.

Good subject!
I have found it easy to perform these services on my LIKE 200i :
Engine oil change, incl. screen clean
Gear oil change
Seat and seat-bucket removal
Spark plug change
Valve adjustment (incl. finding timing marks)
Aftermarket mirror install
Aftermarket tach. install
Rear shocks off
Exhaust off
Front running light replacement

The most involved project was topping up the brake fluid reservoir - after removing body panels. Kymco could just as easily - and with out creating an ugly distraction - have placed a rectangular opening for the reservoir lids in the bar panels. Other scoots have this feature.

Otherwise - by luck, or by design - Kymco has built a LIKE 200i to be easy to routinely service. As for major system repairs - I hope I never have to find out.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Underbones similar to the Symba 100.
