Scooter ownership.

Salt = high blood pressure. Lay off the salt - there is already enough added to almost all our foods....if you have a salt shaker on the table, think of it as a pistol laying there. Watch someone after even a 'mild' stroke trying to walk - let alone ride a scooter.
As for my scooter.....it's pretty, but it ain't a vintage Ferrari Testarossa or a Speedster.
Winter prices are 66% of what I paid a year ago - so it's not like these Kymcos are appreciating in value if you keep them on blocks in the living room with a lamp on them. I'll ride this scoot... rain, snow etc., rinse it with soap & hot water from the garden sprayer when I get home - start it again to make certain I've not wet something important, give it a quick wipe and enjoy it again the next ride.
Nobody in N. America is changing his oil more often than I am....so, it's not being abused, just ridden.
When I don't ride the scoot to work I'm taking the city bus. This isn't my toy, it's my vehicle.
My day-dream , as I shovel my driveway every 18 hours, is to fly out to see Oooty in Santa Barbara, purchase one of his pretty red HD 200's and ride home to Ohio. Must buy a couple quarts of oil for the changes while I mosey along, breaking it in. The valves will be OK, he assures me. (it's a day-dream, but I did ask him about the valves)

I don't know about that changing the oil thing Stig. I change mine every 500 miles. Oil cheap only 2 bucks an it only takes a quart. Besides it only takes 10 minutes to do and it gives me a chance to check the bolts screws ect holding the body together while it drains. Clean oil want hurt the motor but old oil will.

Sounds like a fun trip Stig and if planned right you can avoid Interstates so that the break-in will be easier on the scooter and yourself. Be aware that going from Santa Barbara to Ohio takes you into some high altitudes with cold and snowing weather al the way into June.

San Jose scooter's has some great prices and I've thought about taking a Greyhound bus there, riding for 500 miles in the area, getting the first service and then riding home to Missouri.

I'm a California boy and the coast is absolutely beautiful, especially going north.

I may ride today as it's about 52 degrees right now!
