Filling up the tank
« on: February 17, 2014, 10:21:32 PM »
Can anyone tell me the trick to filling up without getting gas splashed around? I always seem to get some splash back when I fill up. Drives me nuts!

...pump..ssllowww....

..some pumps are stiff and harder to control, but I can rarely pump at full throttle without spewing it out the hole...

..especially right near the end, when it's almost filled up...

I use the slowest setting on the pump handle.  After the 1st click or release, I wait about 20 seconds watching the whole time to make sure that trapped air is release.  Then I fill some more.

Patience, patience, patience !   Just go slow and take your time. Make sure the gas nozzle is pointed directly into the filler neck and not at a angle. I also keep a piece of towel under my seat to clean up any over spray.

Sometimes I fill at home with a funnel from one of those plastic safety fuel cans (cannot buy any other kind around here)
.....but on the road: I fuel before sunrise, at the same BP pump, using the same hand, fuel from the same side, flash light in the other to watch down there. Smallest squeeze  which will start the fuel slowly.
The only time I spilled some was when I  was in a hurry; went to a diiferent pump and used a different hand coming in from a different side of the scoot.
Like using a pencil - repeat with the same hand - and you'll get good at it.
I fuel early, using my card, before the station is actually open with a salesperson - so I can take my time.
