Anyone actually use the sidestand on their Super8?
« on: May 30, 2014, 04:45:09 PM »
I've used my sidestand 2 or 3 times since I've had it. Only for a few minutes when running in for something and right back out.
It seems like it is too short for the scoot. The scooter leans over so far on the sidestand, that it seems like a good sneeze will cause it to fall over. Plus, the foot is so small, that if you are parked on an unpaved surface it sinks in the ground and is useless (the feet on the center stand have the same issue).

Wondering if anyone has modded their sidestand to be slightly longer and/or added a wider foot to allow parking on various surfaces?
I'm thinking I will be doing this before I go camping this summer.

Any opinions appreciated.  8)

I personally NEVER use the side stand as I just don't trust it. I always use the center stand, it feel so much more secure.

I do use it but I also cannot count the number of times I rode off w/ it down.
Left turns tend to get bumpy when you do this.  :o

Yeah, the center stand is rock solid! I've had the scoot stand up to bad thunderstorms with 60+ mph winds, and it doesn't budge!
But, sometimes when my shoulder is acting up, lifting it up on the center stand gets tiring. The side stand would just be more convenient if it were better designed. The whole scoot sort of wobbles when it's on the sidestand.

I haven't ridden off with it down, but I have gotten my pantleg caught on it while walking back out of a parking spot.
I didn't fall over, but I did look like kind of a retard! Well, more so than I normally do anyway!  :D

The ZX has a sort of LOOP that acts as your kick spot. I have had that hit my ankle bone a few times. Once was bad enough I went to the ER to see if I broke my ankle.

Lesson learned. Never let your foot drag back on corners. I would have taken off the side stand but I ditched the center stand at 2 days old.  ::)

I only use mine when parking on an unlevel surface. When I park I make sure the higher side of the ground is on the left side of the scoot. This helps with the short length of the side stand and helps it stay more upright. 99% of the time it's the center stand though.

We almost never use the center stand. Just flip down the side stand and that's it. Only issue I've found is, on a slope, make sure the scoot is facing uphill.

99% of the time I use the centerstand.  Sometimes on uneven or soft surfaces the sidestand will work when the centerstand won't.  I'm glad to have a sidestand on my S-8.  My Aprilia doesn't have one and sometimes it's real hard to park.
