for sale barely used Dr.Pulley Sliding rolls
« on: February 05, 2014, 03:41:13 PM »
For sale rarely used Dr.Pulley Sliding rolls 2822 - 6 x 28 grams.
Took these out right after I put a Malossi  variator in it.
If interested, make me an offer.

Just curious, how has the Malossi variator worked for you? And did you change out the clutch or belt?

It worked out absolutely great. I would recommend it to anyone. Most bikes below 600 cc can't keep up at trafficlights.

I have about 18.000 miles on the variator without any issues. I only changed the vario and the belt, the rest is stock.
RPM is higher of course but I think that as long as you change oil regularly it can't hurt the engine.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the response. What belt did you use? I'm assuming the Malossi variator calls for something other than stock. And what kind/weight rollers or sliders did you use?  Also the model number of the variator would be helpful. I'm very interested in trying out this setup.  I'm assuming it makes the 500 a bit quicker off the line?  Did you lose any top end?

Malossi belt and the rollers that came with the vario.
Multivar 2000 it is called I believe: http://www.malossistore.us/en/models/KYMCO/KYMCO-XCITING-500-4T-LC-euro-2-3/-1?MM=MO%20KYXC500&FG=-1&Type=M

You will never want to change back!

ok, this is great to know. I'm running Dr. Pulley sliders now and love them but I will be changing to  a Hit Clutch so was looking for the full upgrade magic.  A lot of the guys with insane top speeds on these 500s are running the Malossi variator, the hit clutches and exhausts so they must work.  If you have 18k on yours then they for sure won't blow up the bike.  One guy got 190kph indicated with that set up. Insane. Thanks for the scoop.

I never said I have 18.000 miles with doing 190 kph... A Malossi Multivar variator with Malossie belt and rollers will give you much more acceleration and overall better responsiveness, but it will never go faster than 150 - 160 kph (measured with GPS). The X is totally maxed out at that point (between 7000 - 8000 rpm). I don't take it there very often.
I don't think it's wise to assume the engine will last 20k or more when you tweak it more. But I sure would be interested to know how far you can stretch it further!

Read other forums about people using the hit clutch. Broken springs, exploding, wearing away of other parts because their race was machined poorly etc. The xciting 500 is as dependable as an anvil when u leave it stock. Why spend 100's of dollars to gain a few mph at top speed, or to go from 0-60 a half second faster? It makes no since. How often does anyone ride a scooter at 90 mph or so? It's not a ninja! Last week I rode a combo of speeds of 55 to 65 on various hwy's here in Arizona. I got 59 MPG! Thats my kind of performance. Good luck to all on your future mods. :-*

Mary, I can assure you that the Malossi variator adds more than 'half a second faster'. It really changes the scoot dramatically acceleration-wise. But I would not recommend this mod to someone who mostly drives long distances. It's more suitable for cities etc.
The stock setup also does not allow for a passenger easily. With the Malossi variator I can take the wife along easily :)

My wife & I have ridden 500 plus mile days? Up mountains and such? Just so everyone knows, only use the malossi belt with their variator. Do not use their belt with the stock variator. It is just 1mm wider than when Kymco suggest u change the belt. It also may be shorter than the stock belt? I know u can buy it for just $139.00 But beware. With stock variator, stick with the stoke belt. :-*

Well, that all depends on the wife  ;)
The stock 500 does not rev up enough to safely maneuver through dense traffic is my experience.  You want to be able to accelerate quickly when in a tight spot. The 500's weight / HP ratio is not very good (220 kilos dry).

I fully agree with not mixing Malossi parts with stock parts. I have a Malossi variator with Malossi belt (second one now in 20.000 miles) and had no issues up till now (knock on wood).

Hey Guile, I am replacing my OEM with a Multivar as soon as it gets here. Already ordered. I want to lower my hiway rpm some.

Hi Bongoman, what do you mean by lowering the rpm? Changing the stock variator to a Multivar will normally raise the rpm  ??? (unless you changed the roller-weights?)

I am not getting the Multivar. You're right, Guile, about the increased rpms. However, the Malossi distributor is a joke. Cannot ship anything on time. Poor customer service. Avoid Malossi USA online unless you have a lot of patience. A whole lot of patience.
