Broken again
« on: April 19, 2014, 06:36:05 AM »
This is the fourth thing I'll have had to have fixed under warrenty. I thought Kymco was quality?  Shouldnt need the warrenty then. The damn ignition lock broke again. I have had every lock replaced and now I get to do it again.

You have to keep in mind these are cheap Chinese scooters assembled in mega factories by children fed mercury, and meth.
If they were made in america they would cost four time as much because american workers have to buy their own meth.

On the bright side you are getting it fixed under warranty. Try to do that with a Pep Boys scooter. :-*

I have to admit I'm not as confident of the Like as I used to be. In the past year I've had replace/fix under warranty two batteries, an oil seal behind the variator and now it looks like the starter motor and/or rely as it started acting up again after I cleaned and tightened all the connections.

Like I said man These are cheap China scooters. Not Vespas.
On the bright side the parts are cheap, and you can buy most everything on the computer in 10 minutes.

And they do have a warranty. What's the difference between a 10.00 hooker, and a 1000.00 call girl. Price

Well hooker advice aside so far I've had I've had every lock but the glove box lock break now the ignition one has broken twice. I had part of my side view mirror broken from day one and got a new one.  Ive had my starter crank then stop on its own even though I had my finger on the starter still then without lifting my finger it started crankinv again. Some days it idles rough other days it idles smooth. Seems to be if I ride for half an hour then turn it off and turn it on a bit later while it is still warm it will idle poorly.  Last night I flipped the switch for brights and the damn brights didnt come on, for a few seconds I was riding without light at night it was nuts. This scooter has all the issues of my chinese big ruckus clone. The obly difference is parts can be found I just need zombie to show me what I need to know about these hivh dollar escorts.

1 800 GOO BABY Ask for Marta!

I assume your scoot is kept outside, and un covered. All your issues sound like rain in the locks, and switches.
Without trying to be a jackass I humbly suggest these are lack of maintenance issues. 4 drops of wd40 a month will prevent all of them.

I am wrong, and assumptive quite often so forgive me if this is the case again.

Just to be clear, it's the Like were talking about that's manufactured in a China and not all Kymco's right?

I am not sure. A quick google will confirm which are manufactured where. I think some of the bikes are assembled in Taiwan, and all the bits are made in China. You have to keep one VERY important factor in mind... China imports, and recycles almost every piece of scrap metal on the planet. Same for plastics.
China is keeping what resources they have for themselves, and exporting lower grade products to everyone else.
They have a master plan, and it is working.

Kymco only really quality controls the assembly, distributes, and gives the warranty. Their bikes are the exact same as the Pep Boys 799.00 scooters except for the quality control, and warranty. SOME parts are marginally better but the majority are exactly the same. These are cheap China scoots with a warranty... nothing more. That's why they are 1/2 the price of all the other major brands, and 1/4 of the best brands.

You can buy a Kia that looks like a Bentley and bitch cause the blinker handle broke on the Kia. If you don't want to buy a Bently... Don't bitch about the Kia.
I'm not trying to say anyone is wrong or out of line for their opinion(s). It's just the fact we are paying for a warranty. Not a Bentley. If you can't perform minor maintenance for what ever reason you will have CONSTANT issues.

One last thing, and I will shut up. I can buy a complete running engine for my kymco's on line for 279.00 shipped.
Last Wednesday I ordered a shift/clutch controll w/ cables and shift crucifix for a 1978 Vespa 125, and it came to 324.62 w/ shipping. I can't bitch about Kymco.

Zombie,

Thanks for your knowledge and insight. I'm still trying to get a handle on this whole scooter thing. Your posts are very informative.

Nope not an issue with not taking care of it.  It stays in a garage. It is well kept and was brand new when purchased. I know this and the Agility are made in china. But Kymco also put's their name on it so this would mean it's up to their standard.  I found out what the problem is. This is important to every Like owner.  It would appear that the key is made with a cheap soft metal.  The metal of the key was slightly twisted. The mechanic put it in a vice and fixed it.  And NO I am not turning the key with retard rage. This has happened twice now and my shop is now looking to get keys cut from a better metal.

The local Ace Hardware cut mine. I'm sure you can have one cut before your shop gets you one.

LOL on the retard rage. I call my GF "my sweet lil retard" when she goes off about something. I calm her down w/ shiny things or candy.
