Kymco and Sym scooters
« on: September 15, 2009, 03:13:20 PM »
Back in the day I read the Kymco company split.  One became Kwang yang motor company i.e. Kymco, and other Sang yang motor company i.e. Sym.  The engineering of both scooters are almost identicle.  I did read the sym has ceramic coated cylinder walls for longr life.  I did a lot of research before getting my first and current scooter- the agility.  To tell you the truth I was looking for a kymco super 9=2 stroke power over 100 kmp.  My other dream scooter is the sym jet also 2 stroke; basically same. From what I gather these taiwan scooters are awesome.  Although, italians have a hold on things.(youtube knowledge 101) 8)

IN my opinion the Super 9 is the clear choice! If you mod it NOTHING in it's class can touch it, but you will spend hours maintianing it. Left stock they are just as good as ANY other scoot made. The plastics are a bitch however there are loads of cheap ways to repair them. Epoxy glass being the best! Good luck!!!

I've never heard of a split into Sym and Kymco.
Nothing to read on their homepages.
http://www.sym.com.tw/
http://www.kymco.com/
If there really was a split, they delayed the foundation of Kymco by 9 years and/or faked their histories.

Kymco Super 9 with 100kph!? Speedometer tuning!

I believe I went to the original Kymco  factory sight . and they had a history page.  I read it from some reputable place.

Here is a link to a page I found with an extensive history of Kymco.  I don't see anything about Sym on there other than they are one of Kymco's top competitors.  http://www.answers.com/topic/kwang-yang-motor-company-ltd-2

Here is a tid bit that may add some clarification just click: www.scooterdynasty.com/kymco.aspx speaks of sym and kymco being same company joined with honda of Taiwan.  That is probably why Kymco have provided honda with motors for years and visa versa.  I guess we'd be riding hondas if they had'nt split.

Yeah I believe scoot1234 is right! I didn't follow the link, but I have read the same thing (re: history of Kymco) I believe they were the main producers of the honda dio series engines. When Kymco split from honda, simm was also born> I imagine the three of them rolicking around a big farm eating marshmellows and the like. That's why there is soo much confusion about cross over part fitment. (gy-6=zx50, dio50=zx50, ect). I am currently building an NC/50 Honda,Jessie James bicycle frame. Imagine getting parts for that. Especialy from the computer jocks at the order desk.
