USA Kymco sales figures
« on: May 10, 2014, 01:37:56 PM »
I'm no expert on scooters - but I've been reading our forum and the SYM forum for a year and I have noticed that we have dozens of new daily posts for every new post that appears on the SYM forum.
I like SYM's....and think they are great scooters (even Ferrari bought them for Mike Schumacher to ride on at F1 tracks)....but just judging by the forum numbers it would seem to me that KYMCO must sell vastly more scooters than does SYM in the USA. I know KYMCO offers many more models of scoots...and surely seems to have a lot more dealers*....so the numbers of SYM scoots sold must be a fraction of those sold by KYMCO, yes?

Does anyone know the sales figures, by brand, for scooters sold here in the States?

*My local SYM dealer is a great bunch of folks....but their mechanic has been gone for a long time...and their stock of one each of most models are to be viewed, parked grip-to-grip,  in a (new looking) garden shed next to a HVAC co. They would give it their best shot - if you needed service or parts. Fortunately most of these high quality scoots get by just fine on minimal servicing and parts...though I continue to read of parts delays & related issues.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I would love to see sales figures in the US versus the other brands. I'm always explaining who KYMCO is when I tell them about my scoot. Adding a sales comparison to that explanation would be a great way to show that they are an up and coming scoot company on the rise.

Kymco has had a presence in the US market far longer than SYM. Then add the disaster that was the Carter Bros, then the somewhat shaky startup of Alliance and SYM has work to do.They are building a new dealer network and a financing plans are coming.

I own both Kymco and SYM scoots and love both. The SYM HD/RV200 is in a class by itself. There is not another 171cc scoot that can compete with it.

I feel the same way about the Dowtown 300i. Other scoots in its class need to be put on a diet. The 300GTi is also in a lass of its own, big wheels, step thru and good looking.

I'm lucky as my Kymco dealer is also my SYM dealer. They stock all models of both lines in multiple. They also sell Genuine and assorted budget china scoots. Service is great on both SYM and Kymco.

SYM isn't the only one with some parts issues as we know.

Both have plenty to offer but Kymco is far and away a better seller than SYM and that's reflected by traffic on the SYM forums.

Its nice to have choices!
