tranny wont shift
« on: May 12, 2014, 12:22:01 AM »
So I've had what seems to be a ton of problems with my 03 venox but I have managed to get them all fixed except for this shifting issue.I had the bike running for a few days and drove it maybe 3miles of the course of those days. And one day I couldn't get the bike to go into neutral so I did some poking around and noticed the tie rod from the shifter pedal was bent so with a few good pushes with a block I got it straight and it started shifting in all gears fine. The next day same thing happened couldn't get it into neutral so I noticed the tie rod was bent again. This time I straightened it and started shifting thru all gears by hand without actually riding it. Then it got stuck in 2nd gear. Left it alone for a week and after changing fluids because of a bad petcock getting gas in the crankcase, it shifted up to 3rd and is stuck again. When trying to shift it the shifter returns to center goes up and down. Going down it moves very easily like its not attached to anything and when shifting up it seems like it's trying to go into gear but doesn't completely. Any idea what is wrong. I'm hoping it's not internal

Non issue... Get the new rod, and adjust it as per the PM. It takes alot of force to move the shift forks, and it all has to be lined up exactly to work.

Post up, and let us know how good it feels to have fixed your bike. ;D

Apparently, according to Dutch folk law, some young bloke had to stick his finger in a dyke to stop a leak, and it saved the town !  :)

Anyway, we digress. Sorry Oldspower.  So did you get you TRANSMISSION problem sorted ?

Still haven't had time to look at the bike crazy work with this crazy rain we have been getting but managed to talk to my buddy I bought the bike from and he said he replaced the return spring before. Maybe I can get to the bottom of this tomorrow since I'll have the day off.

The return is inside then case. That only means one thing... It's had a hard life.
Not to scare you anymore than my first response.

Did your buddy ride dirt bikes before he owned that one? It's HArd TO BREAK GEARS, AND EVEN HARDER TO BREAK GEARS W/O TRASHING THE ENGINE IN THE PROCESS.

sORRY FOR THE CAPS.... i CAN'T TYPE, AND LOOK AT THE SAME TIME.
Fixed it.
I forget all the manual/specs if it was ever brought up so I would sugest getting/have the service manual.
Pretty much any Kymco tranny manual will do to give you ball park numbers.
Obviously you have trouble moving the gears. That only says one of two things...
Either the part that makes them move is not working OR the parts that move are not working.

My bet is ALWAYS on the parts that make them move as the weak link.
PERHAPS it is toast... New cases are available. It's worthless as a wreck but get it running, and its what? 2,000.00??

Have you seen that bad ass one that's all blacked out??  ??  ??

I'd say even for a F'n Moped I'd pay 5g's ish. Guessing it's worth more but hey...... Bad ass for the cost of  a crankcase/engine.. 900.00ish? plus a grand to trick it out?

Don't listen to me tho... I have a bike twice as quick ( 0 - 65 MPH) with the same top MPH, AND I can't give it away.

Point is there is well spent money on these, and there is DUH~ money spent on ...

If I had the time/money/inclination... I'd build bad ass scooters. ResPecT!
Just saw an epiphany moment.
I think I posted this before.
'Pick the one thing you would do if you had every penny you would ever need for EVERYTHING/Ever.
What would make you proud of your day?

It's a respect thing that money can't buy.

Hey there Oldspower. Did you check MYXmanuals.com to get the service manual ? I never heard back from you.
