Bulb Types/LED replacements
« on: August 31, 2012, 01:22:40 AM »
I'm looking to replace all of the lights on my Yager with LEDs from here: http://www.superbrightleds.com/

I did this with my 2004 L/C Super 9 without a problem, but I can't seem to find anywhere what kind of turn signal bulbs (front and rear) as well as rear brake light bulb the Yager 200i takes.

I know the headlight is a H4 bulb -- and I already have this bad boy on its way for a replacement:

Also, I PMed another member for the service manual (not just the owners manual), but I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me a walk-through on how to get to hte front and rear bulbs. I already tried to unscrew all of the 4 screws in the rear light assembly to remove the cover, with no luck.

Sorry, can't really help as I haven't done it but I sent you the service manual :-)
Hopefully, that should help.

The front you need to remove the whole front panel. I think there are 6 - 8 screws
on the driver side that have to come out as well as the windshield and plate under
it. I think the side lights up front are T10 base.

The rear has me stumped too. I took out the 4 screws and couldn't go any further.
I wanted to upgrade the brake light before installing the Givi rack. I usually change
the 1157 taillight bulbs to 2357 as the 1157's are 21 cp and the 2357's are 32.

The side turn bulbs are special, an 1156 fits but the locating numbs on the side are
different. The reason is they don't want you putting a clear bulb in there. I heard you
can mod a 1156 by cutting off one nub then it will fit (but make sure to color it yellow!).

Note: Took all the panels off and removed the rear bezel, it looks like it should slide out after
the 4 screws are removed (but wouldn't easily for me). The brake light is similar to 1157 so the
2357 will work. I changed the licence plate lamp for LED (just cause I had one) it takes a T10
base.

Just so this thread doesn't lead people to have to continue searching, here's the incandescent and LED versions of all lights (except the Met-In box light, which I've disconnected):

The bulbs for the Kymco Yager GT 200i (incandescent and LED):

Headlight (white):
  Incandescent:  H4 (60/55W)
LED:  H4 9003 High Power COB LED Light 3200lm High Low HeadLight 40W Bulb Xenon White

NOTE: VLEDs.com says they're not sure if a headlight modulator will burn out their LED driver.

NOTE: Kisan Tech says my headlight modulator *will* work with a 30 or 40 watt LED headlight.
NOTE: LifeTimeLEDLights says the headlight modulator will burn out the LED driver.

LED:  T10 Wedge 5 Ultra Bright SMD LED Bulb

Turn signals (orange):
  Incandescent:
  F - 12V10W CD12V RY10W 37R E13 2F6 9A
  R - PY21W 581 BAU15S 7507 (21W)

  LED:
  F - AMBER 7507 BAU15s
  http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/tail-brake-turn/filter/Cross_Reference_Number,BAU15S,21,196:
  R -  Jtech 2x 1156 BAU15S 13W High Power LED Yellow Signal Light
  http://www.amazon.com/Jtech-BAU15S-Power-Yellow-Signal/dp/B00C16FS1C

I've replaced all the bulbs with LEDs (except for the Met-In box, which is disconnected, and except for the headlight, because an LED's heat sink won't fit... there's not enough room behind the bulb housing). I can attest that all the other LEDs above fit and work. In fact, the brake light even works with my brake light flasher.
