Would this bridge be game for scooters....
« on: July 03, 2014, 12:57:47 PM »
This is a bridge near were I commute. Its a great short cut to avoid a 50 MPH stretch of road. Not sure if scooters are allowed to go over it though. I did go over it but having second thoughts about making it part of the regular commute. Would you consider it scooter legal ?

Why not take photos of the bridge itself, would love to see it.

By the photo you did post I'd say they want you off of the bridge, that said I'd be using it every day if it served my purpose and was safe enough.

Looks like a pedestrian bridge to me, so unless it has gaps in the concrete or the supports have rusted though I don't think there be an issue.  The article you posted makes me think its closure is due to other reasons.

BUT...the ex engineering tech in me has to warn you that the bridge could have some underlying issues that the article did not address.  Without photo's of the bridge we can't make an educated guess and I would recommend caution first and foremost.

Just another scooter blog - http://www.2smallerwheels.blogspot.com

Looks like they tore down the old car bridge and built a new higher pedestrian bridge. The blocks and signs are there because a automobile road runs through the bridge. Its Johnny Cake and one end and the other end of the road.

Any thing that says"local access only" u use, you can status pull the old I live just down there officer. Haha I've found taking shortcuts in scoots as long as your not blasting through people are usually cool.

I agree.

Be respectable and don't ride through fast. Cant give that "where I live story" to the officer because if he checks my license, I possibly could be in more trouble fibbing to the police.

Yea don't lie to the police, if caught that can be a whole other charge. Using the bridge at most will get you a ticket of riding on the trail[?] or similar if everything else is legal.

To me it looks like an old road that was turned into a walking/biking trail. We have some defunct railroad lines that were converted to pedestrian trails and even though I could easily ride a scoot on them, they've gone to the point of posting signs that say no motorized vehicles. So with that said, you can probably figure out by the surroundings if it is a motor vehicle road or a walking trail.

When I see that sign it suggests to me that a bridge is closed and the only access is to the individuals that happen to live on that road.
