I've never seen it, but I hear it happens!  You need to check the timing.  Here is how the service manual says to do it.  I'm not sure if it is adjustable though.  I would try to start it again.  If it starts forwards it should run forwards.

Remove the right side rail.
Remove the A.C. generator fan cover.
Remove the four bolts attaching the fan and
then remove the fan.
Warm up the engine and check the ignition
timing with a timing light.
When the engine is running at the specified
rpm, the ignition timing is correct if the “F”
mark on the flywheel aligns with the index
mark on the crankcase within ±2°.
Ignition Timing:
15.5°±2°BTDC/2000rpm

The CDI ignition timing is not adjustable.
If the timing is incorrect, check the
CDI unit, ignition coil and A.C.
generator and replace any faulty parts.

Will check it tomorrow thank you  I appreciate it.

I also was told today that perhaps the magneto/stator could be in backwards, so i flipped it around and re-installed it and the Engine runs the same way.. but the tire still moves backwards..
the fan spins counter clockwise..is this correct?
when i kick start it it begins to move the bell clockwise but then as it starts the bell switches direction and goes counter clockwise. wierd huh? lol

hey , the battery cables are reversed, or do i remember you putting a starter relay in? I think you have the polarity reversed on the starter/ relay. cranking the engine backwards will give the problems you have. Instead of 15% advance you are running 15 retarded. MAYBE! If that's it I would like a christmas card.

Your definately running backwards!  The fan should spin clockwise.  When you crank the kickstarter it should spin it the right direction.  You said it changes direction when it fires up though.  I think the timing is definately retarded.  I don't know exactly why though.  I don't think you have reversed polarity.  I think that would just fry something.  I would pull off the stator and check all of that stuff in there.  It just seems that the stator, or pulser coil, or something is in the wrong position.

What in the world?  I've heard of 2t engines running backwards, but it's hard to imagine that everything would be screwed up enough to allow it to do that.  Some watercraft engines are made with two pickup coils, one for foward running and one for reverse.  They use this (literally) to put the engine in reverse on the water.

Weird to hear about it on a scooter.  You have to turn the engine over the wrong direction to make it run in the wrong direction, so the other posts here make sense...

It's haunted.  Posessed.  Your ZX50 has entered...
