Avon Viper Strike
« on: October 14, 2014, 10:27:53 PM »
Just to let everyone know. My rear Avon has 8,000 miles on it, and the rubber is now even with the wear bars. Not bad? :-*

That's pretty damn good mileage for that heavy of a bike. I've had a couple sets of vipers, that were great except when there was even a hint of water on the ground lol.

I'm impressed as well. I loved my Vipers but got less than 1/2 that life with 1/4 the bike. Nice!

Hope life is treating you well Sissy.

All I do is tour. Very little stop and go. That's why mileage is so high. :-*

Nice for Avon Viper, Sissy Mary. I got 9500 out of my last set of Michelin. Of course, the last 1000 or so was a wee bit slippery in the twisty-turnie.

as some have pointed out before me the avon viper are a good tyre on the dry. but on wet they're terrible. I have almost  6000 miles on my rear Avon. still deep thread good profile. would go another 3-4000 I'm sure. when time comes I'm gonna change it for a Mich power pure. I have one on front and it's amazing!

Perhaps it has something to do w/ the surface area / road contact patch, to bike size/tire size ratio.
I found on my 50cc bikes the Vipers were superior to anything else (I tried) in the rain. I've slid on Michelens/Pirellis/kendas/Chen Shins, but never on Avon Vipers...

Gotta be in that ratio somewhere...

Power pure for the win!!!! I've had viper strikes on 12", 13", and 16" wheels and they are slippery as sh** in the rain. I switched directly from vipers to pilot pure on my tgb and was 10x more confident riding in the rain.
