Newbie hereu
« on: March 25, 2016, 03:28:56 PM »
Newb here, just picked up a beat to hell 04 super 9. I will be needing help with it. So any info would be great. Tries knows me from 49ccscoot and he has helped a lot. I'm just not sure if I should keep this thing or try to sell it. Does anyone know about how to find out if this engine was recalled? I tried to call kymco but they have not responded yet. I believe that they should be replacing my engine for free?  I will just call again I guess.

If you do a web search, not this site, you will find how to identify the recalled scooters.  Probably info about the recall on this site too.  I ran across it the otherday.  Would be amazing for Kymco to replace your engine, let us know how it goes.

Does it run?  What are the issues?  Good luck.

I forgot about that in the message. Here's a link with 2 super 9 recalls, and info, and the number to call. You will be able to find it from the engine code, may need to search up the vin number too.

I just got my second kymco super 9 yesterday. I traded a jog engine and a gy6 150 and a couple other small parts for it. This one has most plastics and if combined will maybe make one half way decient scoot. I will still need a wiring harness, so if anyo e knows or has one cheap, please let me know. I saw one for 60 on eBay but was hoping for around 30. I have a lot of sanding and paint prep to do. Gotta clear out my project 4t and get these kymcos in and start swapping parts.

Sweet! I still need to mail you that Damn kit. I'll also search up the gaskets and rings and other stuff. At any point you want to get rid of a stator case half let me know, I have a busted bolt in mine with busted bits and extractors in it...

Welcome to the Super 9 family.  I looked at the pics you posted on 49cc scoot and I gotta say that I very much doubt that kymco will replace the engine for a couple reasons. First the bike is 12yrs old and the model is discontinued  (even though the engine series is not),  but even more so is the fact that the damage/sludge isn't a manufacturer defect.  I suspect that the bike. Was stored outside and probably didn't have a sparkplug installed/loose plug or if it's an LC perhaps a seal or packing let go. Either way, it comes down to an owner (not you)  related maintenance issue, for which Kymco will probably not be willing to cover (even though it's really no skin off their butts as they made like a gazillion SF10 motors and only cost them like $10 per unit) I hope you luck. If I had a cylinder and piston to donate, I would. Keep us posted and we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Well the reason for the recall is because of a casting flaw where the shock connects to the case and because of a flaw with the cooling system. So that may be very well why there is so much sludge and crap in the engine. Both of the kymco super 9's that I have acquired have the same engine stamping number on them. So both engines are to be recalled. I do not believe that there is a experation date on recalls. I had a baby crib that was 6 years old and when I had my second kid we found out that there was a recall on the crib and it was replaced with a brand new one that actually cost more than the original. A recall is for safety and I believe that they have to fix according to the national safety board.

I was wrong. It's 8 years since the recall is issued. Hopefully kymco is a stand up company and does right by their product!

Yes, would be very cool if they fixed it.  Let us know how it turns out.  Cheers
