GRANDVISTA NEWBE !!

  Hi everyone ...my name is big joey... I just bought a new 2009 grandvista 250 today
and already have 88 miles on it !!!  I have ridden mc's for 53 years (yes, I am old !)  but this is my first scooter- I love it! 
Question:  my butt is too large- is there any way to remove the little back rest on the drivers
seat without distroying the seat??

Oh Big Joey......Urbestfriend is no young kid either.  There have been no posts that I've found about
removing the elevated hump.  However there have been more posts about buying the optional seat
with the more pronounced hump  (See thread and picture on this forum).   I would search the internet
for someone who recovers and rebuilds motorcycle seats.  I would really hesitate to disassemble
any of these plastic core seats.  They are stapled,  but unless you are really good at ulpostering
it would be a risk.  The next used seat I've seen was $100.00.

I can understand your perplexing situation.  If I lost my extra weight,  I could probably go 5 mph
faster.

Yeah, you can remove the back rest without destroying the seat.  I did.  Lift the seat open and you can access the mounting screws from the underneath.  Be sure to keep it, though.  After removing the back rest I took a 2 ¼” hole saw and cut out 3 washers from a piece of black plastic I had laying around and replaced the screws. The plastic washers trims out and seal the holes.  And while you’re at it you might want to get yourself an AirHawk seat cushion. The Medium Cruiser size works great.  You can check it out at www.rlmotorcycles.com  But I’d shop around a bit you might get a better deal.  They are more than worth the money.  The Garndvista is a sweet scoot, but the AirHawk turns it into a Cadillac.  You wont regret it and your butt will thank you for it.

Not exactly, because top speed is not determined by weight but wind resistance.
There is a bit more friction in rotational parts of the wheels, suspension and bearing with heavier weight, but the difference is marginal.

So, if you imagine one People 250 that has 400 lbs total and the same-shaped People 250 with (teoretically) 40.000 lbs, both having 20 hp engine, both would have exactly the same top speed but the acceleration to the top speed of the second one would probably be endlessly long.

Urbestfriend is extremely sorry because he has found his seat on a (2004)
does not have the bolt-on bump.  By the way...When the next garbage semi truck
goes past,  I'm going to ask if I can tow him for a couple of miles until I can get
to 60 or 70 mph.
