long trips

 I've been riding some sort of a bike now for 65 years but I've grown a little too old and a little too feeble to handle my Harley Road King safely so I sold it and bought a Downtown 300. So far I've thoroughly enjoyed riding this bike. Other than getting tossed around a bit in a strong wind the bike performs very well. I'm used to heading out for a ride of 3 or 4 days at 300 to 400 miles per day and I'm wondering if that's asking too much of the Downtown. I'd appreciate your thoughts and experience.

Hey Glaswurks, it's not too much for the Downtown, but it may be too much for you and your butt!!   

I have a thick sheepskin on one of my most uncomfortable motorcycles and it has doubled the range my butt can stand. 

Besides making sure that your tire pressure is up on both tires, and your oil level is good, nothing to worry about the Downtown. As I said, the limitations will come from your body, not the machine.

  I have a 2011 DT. and my longest trips were 550 miles each way, but I rebuilt the seat I added 4 " rebond foam and moved the butt stop back 5 " now I can ride all day no problem,.  my seat is level front to back,  were I sit it has settled a bit from my Wt. about 225 dressed to ride,.  de dee

I've read many posts from both of you and I very much appreciate your comments. 1st ride coming up will be through the Clearwater Canyon in Idaho, over the LoLo Pass in Montana, through the Cascade National Park to Canada and back We'll see how the bike (and my fanny) hold up.

Please let us know how you did on your long trip.  I hope to do the same thing.  I'll be 71 in July.  I just can't give riding up.  I enjoy it to much and my wife still loves riding with me.  Ride safe my friend.  May all your paths be bright ones.

We are going to Cumberland Gap on the TN-KY border from West TN in June or July. Will post pictures. Will stop every 50-75 miles so I can drain and rub my butt. Will not have to worry about the DT300i. Break it in and you won't have to worry either. Read up on "Initialization Procedure" and do it when the idle goes nuts. Other that that, ride, bounty, ride!
