need help! electrical problem?
« on: March 14, 2015, 08:18:19 PM »
So I go to start my downtown 300, when I hit igition all I got was clicking, now the screen keeps fading out and the speedometer and rpm Gage's are stuck. When I turn on high beams I get clicking.  After awhile nothing happens except headlights are always on.  Battery issue?  Electrical system? Am I screwed? Please help!

I was thinking low voltage on your first post and yep! there it was! Now try cycling the ignition on and off a few times, each time waiting for the full cycle of fuel pump running and then turning off. This is where your tach and speedo should go simultaneously to full scale and back to zero. This should correct the stuck pointers. Disconnect the new battery at the ground for 5 minutes (with the ignition off) and reconnect if this does not work. Then turn key on and see what happens. Call us in the morning with results.

You do this to any modern vehicle to clear the garbage and all  remaining voltage out of the computer and system.

You can do this simpler by disconnecting just the PLUS pole of the battery and then turning on the ignition and squeeze the brake levers for about 30 seconds.  That clears all remaining voltage "gently" out, rather than brutal "grounding".

PS: Don't forget to turn the ignition off before re-connecting the battery.
