Smooth Drive Boss Help
« on: March 15, 2015, 05:51:04 AM »
Do I need to take my variator off to know for sure if I have an unrestricted drive boss? I looked and felt it in place and it looked and felt smooth. Or is the possible restricted spot hidden in the housings on the left or right side?

You won't have to take it apart, just the cvt cover. You should be able to feel the collar right behind the fixed pulley half.

Or you might use a small mirror to look behind the fixed pulley half. I have one of those telescope mirrors similar to those which dentists use...

Or you could just ride it and see how fast it goes. 30 or under, you still have the original restricted drive boss. 35+, you have a smooth one. Of course, that assumes an otherwise stock Like 50 on level ground.
