Top box gasket alternative
« on: April 12, 2015, 04:28:04 AM »
Today while riding I heard a load chattering from the top box. I pulled over and opened the lid to discover nearly a third of the gasket was gone and the remaining was at various stages of disintegration. Looking through the Kymco parts there doesn't appear to be a replacement gasket without buying the entire box unit. Any ideas on what I can use as an alternative? I went to Michaels thinking I would found find something like those rubber stringy things used for making beaded jewelry, but all I could find was the hard plastic type. I need something that is a bit spongy to absorb the vibration of riding.

Get some one sided sticky foam tape from home Depot, or they might have rubber. Anyway there will be something there that fixes it!!

I use weather stripping between the top and bottom halves.

My gasket is more like spline for a screen .

Put some blue rtv silicone in the groove, let it dry and your good to go. About half way deep all around.

Thanks folks. I ended up using a seal from an old gun case I had. I had to trim it as it was too long, but a little Crazy Glue fixed that. Now I ride chatter free once again.  8)
