Adjusting Super8 Shocks
« on: April 30, 2015, 06:38:17 PM »
My service manual says to use a 'pin spanner'. I have no idea what this is. It also doesn't go into how exactly how to do this. I want to adjust for when I go camping and have the scoot loaded down. Anyone got a clue on the proper procedure besides adjusting one click at a time each side?

I have never heard of a pin spanner.  The tool normally used to adjust shock preload is a spanner wrench.  Most motorcycle shops carry them.  I have a few of them.  They come in different sizes.  One size does not fit all.

I adjusted my S-8 shocks to the second from the most stiff and never bother to adjust them.

Failing that Wayne,
I wrapped a rag around the shock, took a gentle hold with some channel locks and turned the pre-tensioner.
Our two hondas have model specific shock wrenches.
You can put the scoot on the center stand, unbolt one shock and get both hands on it to turn, then re-bolt and do the other side. Heavy gloves work to grab that starred area.
Apparently, some yrs ago, these tools came with each bike/scoot.

I'd like to know how to do it cause 90% of the time I run 1up but when I go camping I load probably another 50lbs of gear on top of my 230lb smokin hot bod. Would like to adjust for those times.

I use Stig's technique with the channel-loks. Easy to do and works just fine.
