1,800 mile check

I'm getting ready to do this check and see that I will have to replace the air filter.  I saw something on the internet about putting some oil on the filter before installation.  Is that true?  If so, how much should I use and how do I distribute it so it is all over the filter?

If its a foam filter. Clean it and then oil it. Im my previous scoot i had one and i cleaned with detergent (the one i use to wash dishes) in a bucket. soaked then squeezed couple of times and then just let it dry. When dry applied a cup (close to 1 tsp) of 2 stroke oil on the outter face and spread it with my fingers through the surface. Then squeezed and let the excess drip. Did it 3 times among 2000mi

If its paper you can use some compressed air to clean it but it should be replaced...

    Replacement sounds more like.. Just order a new one theres not much to be made

Got over 5000 miles on my S8 with the orig air filter. Ordered one and have it on hand in case it starts acting up but i just pulled it out, gave it a few smacks on the ground to drop out the loose stuff and put it back in. Don't break it smacking it on the ground though (i don't have an air hose). I also never ride on any gravel or dirt roads.

I have one winging its way in the mail to me, but I was just questioning whether or not it had to be oiled first.  Apparently not.  Mine looks clean too, but I will change it as they recommend.  On a happier note, my new windscreen is also on its way to me, though I did not notice much difference without it, and was thinking of putting decorative bolts on the four holes that held the screen on.  I might still do that and save the screen to put on when I'm looking to trade it in.

It's a paper filter, don't oil it.  I've been replacing mine every 5-6000 miles. Unless it's really dirty you are just wasting money by replacing it.  The only reason to replace it at 1800 miles is if you ride in very dusty conditions.
