Propper cvt maintenance

Hi. I did some work already on a cvt of my previous scooter. But i id like to hear what would be the correct procedure and products to use.

I took apart variator belt and clutch housing. Sandpapered the clutch bell and checked belt for any sign of wear and rollers for flat spots. Reasembled and that was it.

I didnt do any lube or cleaning and thats my main concern.. what should be done in that matter.

I was thinking of using brake cleaner all arround (case cover variator clutch everything except rollers and belt) and a 400 sandpaper for the variator where the rollers are held and where the clutch get in contact also.

Then getting some very little grease in the shaft and thats it.

I would like to hear any recomendations in how to perform this job cause im kindda newbie here.

Id take it easy on the sand paper. Maybe emery cloth but a good surface cleaning to get film build up off is all that may be needed. Unless the surface is glazed were slippage is magnified, I wouldnt feel the need to rough the surface. I do us a bit of sand paper and brake cleaner to rough up the clutch pads a bit.

Be careful of getting sandpaper grit into things like needle bearing etc and thats why I would recommend emery cloth over sand paper but I dont think its needed for the bells unless they get glazed. I doubt you would throw them out of specs without lathe turning them.

Also, keep those variator faces clean with simple clean rag and alcohol or break cleaner.

Put a dab of grease in where the starter shaft fits in. Maybe a touch of grease on the kickstart gearing.

Maybe a finger of grease into the needle bearings.

Chris has it exactly right. The only thing I use sand paper on is the clutch pads and bell. You don't want to rough up the variator ramps, but you do want them really clean. One trick I'll do its actual use metal polish to polish the boss super smooth, and clean where it slides in the brass bushing with carb cleaner. Measure the belt with to make sure it's wider than the service limit, 19mm for 150 17.5 for 50cc. One place in the cvt that is usually overlooked, inside the rear torque driver is grease and it should be replaced yearly. Sorta a pain to get the clutch off and everything but worth it. Order Malossi grease http://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/grease+malossi+mrg+racing_m7614289b not normal water proof grease, it'll turn to water in a second once it's hot. Check for flat spots on the rollers and use a drop of the Malossi grease on each roller.

Thats great advice to take!! I wouldnt mess with the clutch it self alone if i had an extra 2 hands a 2 eyes i might consider!
Where can i order that grease within the us? Im going to get some spares.. pads rollers belt cause where i live it can get expensive and hard to get sometimes. So just adding it its easy and necesary.

They guys are treatland are great and in Cali. You have to take apart the clutch and rear pulley to get access to the pins that need lubrication.
