Just spent an hour or so on the Burgman forum. OK, I am retired and need something to do! Seems like there are some similarities between here and there and some differences. The similarities are they seem generally polite and mutually helpful, a lot of new owners don't read their owners manuals and a bunch wanna know the "best"oil to use. Conversely, nary a mention of getting screwed by dealer on either maintenance or purchase, absolutely NO mention of dealers or their techs handing out a lot of BS to customers and no mention of dealers trying to skate out of doing warranty. Fact is, I don't recall that much warranty required. I may have missed some real doozies but it seems most are pretty happy all around as they should be. No, I am NOT gonna run right out and trade for a Burg since I am deliriously happy with the DT300i even if it is a Burgman wannabe. It is a pretty good compromise for a much lower price. I think anyone with the extra bucks will do well with a Burgman.

Yes, a slightly different bunch of folks over there on the Burgman forum.
I think scooter owners in general are somewhat older than  other 2 wheel riders (not counting those crazy kids on the 50's!)....and I think the Burgman riders are a bit old than that!
The intro price might have something to do with that.
But if you can find a not-too-distant left over model - the prices are certainly approaching some 300's. Mine was $2K off list at 90 miles distant dead in the sticks.....while my local dealer wanted full list, plus tax (@$8450)
The Burgman 400 has been around for so long in the plus '07 form - that most of the issues have been taken care of. Owners seem to be able to put a lot of miles on them. Basically they just kept changing colors.
I don't know much about the 650 Burgmans....except that the average owner age must be just shy of falling over.

Here's an interesting discovery - the stock Burgman 400 battery is the same as the stock LIKE200i battery (except NOT a YUASA like my LIKE had) I replaced it last night with the same bigger YUASA that I put in my LIKE, and the same YUASA that came stock in my FORZA. EFI is great, but requires a healthy battery  - and I want a solid battery for my winter rides into the sticks. So, the big YUASA again.
Oil & filter changes are only slightly more work than the FORZA....and SUZUKI only schedules a filter change every 3rd oil change! (like I'm gonna do that!)
The gear oil plugs are buried behind the CVT cover (dumb!) so I'll get to look at my belt and stuff then. (easy DIY removal with specified 'jack bolts') And uses the same engine oil.
The spark plug was easy to change (for an Iridium NGK).
The seat hold-open piston works MUCH better than the Forza's, and the space is much more usable.
BIGGEST thing I liked was the adjustable back rest. Slid that baby back and bingo - real comfy!
I like the long wheel base  and not so much the heft of it (489 lbs) when parking in the garage....otherwise the weight is not a factor when riding - even at low speeds. The combination of the weight and wheel base give a very smooth ride, of course.
The center step over is much easier than the Forza's.
Double head lights are very good, once I adjusted them.
Only two small additional white running lights in front - instead of the large amber running/turn fixtures in the FORZA.
I am told to watch for oil usage at high sustained speeds - but I've not seen any in 450 miles as I'm breaking it in. Using the specified Suzuki oil.....but a lot of folks are doing the "cheaper oil at Walmart" thing, as usual with "oil subject". Never me.

The Mrs. is happy that I've ordered a OEM back rest - but it will likely be this fall or next spring before I take her and my daughter for rides. I want to get very experienced with the bulk of the Burgman. (BTW - it's a SKYWAVE in Japan.....Burgman sounds like a slider joint in N.J., or maybe some waterproof work boots with thick soles. "Got my new Burgman's honey!" Goofy Asian Corporate Committee decisions...!)

I never really found any fault with the build quality of my Chinese assembled LIKE, nor the Thailand assembled FORZA, and this Japan assembled Suzuki seems fine, too. Maybe heavier gauge panels. Better grade seat covering.

Very good mirrors - won't be changing them. About the only blasted shiny bits on the scoot! The youngsters caused these flat and semi-flat finishes.  >:(

Tarting it up a little...which will surely raise some eyebrows and slow the urine stream even more! Some added lettering, red reflective strip (thinner one coming in the post) and of course the Ermax short screen.

It is always a treat, Stig! That red stripe sets the whole thing off. I think the engine design/manufacture philosophy at Suzuki is nearly identical to Honda so high oil consumption would be a surprize. Some of the other shortcomings you mentioned sound like the result of a "marketing driven" company with a little accounting interference. Still, a good bike and with an older clientele.

  this old geezer would love to have one, and I would tell the world,  but to much Wt. for me I think ,.  around here all I have seen are 650 cc s,.   I will stick with my down town,.  may go with a can am when older

Perhaps only in the USA are so many unsold scooters sitting on dealer floors.
Especially rural dealerships. Look one to four  hours away (I searched 8 hours distant)
I am in central Ohio - I searched scooters in KY, PA, IN, MI; and dealers near Chicago, in Arkansas and one in upper Michigan - all for new left-over SilverWings.
 Either go get it and ride it home, or negotiate a deal on delivery.
I can show you a killer price on a pair of new Piaggio BV 350s. Choose between two colors.
Rural dealership.

I paid list + for my LIKE200i 2 yrs ago -   Not doing that any m longer.
This is predominately a scooter forum....we like to read about & see photos of any kind of scooter. Wish more people would post them.

You're a smart man.
I've said a ton of times that showroom floors are littered with big scoots that don't sell. Hence no new Swing since 2013. slow sellers.

I been taking a closer look at the Can Am. 
Even though I ride a 650 Burgman,  I hate how "doggy" it preforms riding two up. It only has 10,200 miles and is super with just me riding.  I would like to share my riding with my wife, but she doesn't like riding on the back she said it was too tippy and unsettling.
She loved our convertible when we had it.
As of this year, in Nevada you don't need a motorcycle endorsement  to ride a traditional trike, or reverse trike (Can Am style) and you no longer need to wear a helmet on a Can Am or the Polaris Slingshot.  We never had a helmet law for a traditional trike.
