LIKE oil change - clean the screen~!
« on: August 17, 2015, 10:36:12 PM »
I know I was nervous the first time I changed the oil on my new LIKE200i...."this thing is running fine - let's not screw it up!"

The 17mm drain plug on the driver side (left side as you're sitting on the scooter - well, facing forwards for Pete's Sake!) is removed to drain the oil. Remove the washer if it sticks to the engine. Use a new one, or if it looks OK - re-use it.(the drain tube has harmless, mysterious stuff that gets drained every so often  - like at oil change time. Known as the PUKE Tube)

On the passenger side (Right side) is this silver dollar sized cap with a 17mm head in the middle.
Use a 6 point 17 mm socket to remove it. 6 point because it is soft metal - these grip better and will do less "rounding" of the hex head. If it is rounded a bit, you can buy these 4 piece sets on eBay for $10 or less. I bought one for a spare. Works fine.

This screen assembly filters the oil as it come out above and exits at the side of the hole.

I rinse the screen with some gas or charcoal lighter fluid....or hot water and soap. Dry it.
OK, change your oil often since this filtering system is pretty basic. (Use good $tuff - Takes less than a Qt. of new oil)

If it all fell out in a jumble - here's how it goes back together.

A little new oil on the rubber 0 Ring.
You must press in against the spring when re-threading it back in by hand.
Then just snug with 17mm socket - don't over-tighten!

Some folks don't clean the sreen - I do, every oil change. It takes just a few minutes and gets another small bit of dirty oil out. Never found much in the screen after the first oil change at 50 miles.

While you're looking under there...wipe things off. A clean aircooled engine is a happier aircooled engine.

I clean my filter with Seafoam. They guys at the auto parts store said just dump it in the recycled oil container for later processing.

I've switched to Motul scooter oil. It's expensive, but I think worth it.

I did mu first oil change without this guide. I cleaned with brake cleaner and let it dry while last drops came out from the crank.
I use motul also.. but the 5100 in 15w50 which is a blend w/ester. Seems to be ok so far. Next oil change is due next week..
