adjusting valves on a 2013 GTI300
« on: October 08, 2015, 01:57:15 AM »
Has been many years since I have adjusted the valves on anything.
I need my memory refreshed.
If i`m not mistaken, the valves are adjusted when the engine is on the compression stroke and engine is cool.
How can I tell whether it is on the compression, or exhaust stroke?.
I am thinking about adjusting mine this winter when it is cold and snowy.

when you take the cover off, look at the cam shaft gear, it has a hole on each side, and a hole on the top ,that will be the time to do the valves, it only comes around every two turns, of the crank,  and that is  Top Dead Center,.   did you make a tool to hold the adjustment bolt   a square hole screw about 1 1/2 inch long , it fits a # 2 Robertson screw driver,. (home depot should have them,)  and get a wire connecter called mar connecters, to hold the screw firmly

The compression stroke is when the intake and exhaust valves are closed and the rocker arms have clearance. If you have the spark plug out you can feel when compression is occurring. The engine should be at TDC. A service manual would be a good investment unless you can find one online

No de dee.
I plan to wait till Jan-Feb when weather is real bad.
I have cold weather gear and ride as late in the season as I can.
Been down with kidney stones for the last three weeks.
Have not been able to ride lately.
