Solenoid issue symptoms
« on: December 08, 2015, 04:44:36 AM »
It has happened twice now that when starting the starter motor just ran on until the battery went flat.

Since then I have been having odd things happening regarding starting.
One time it will be fine, next time I need  a jump (I carry jumper leads now)

Mackie says it is the solenoid, since turning off key, or, red Off button does not work.
Luckily a generic is available and is on order since kymco original part requires a gold bar in exchange....

Just some info if you find similar symptoms occurring.

I think what happened is the heat of start current softened the contacts, welded them closed and kept her cranking. Only IF you can get to the solenoid/relay and smack it smartly with a stick can you keep the battery from depleting. Replacement relays that are close to original should be just fine. Stig found that a Yamaha FI fuel pump was the EXACT replacement for the Like pump and a whale cheaper(I think it was Stig). It will be good to know if your subtitute is the same deal.
