Cellphone Charger Fuse Info , ... ?????
« on: January 17, 2016, 03:14:02 AM »
I've created a small trouble for myself while installing some small LEDs into my scoot's glove compartment door , ... I planned to use the cell phone charging port as a 12v power supply, but it seems I blew the fuse in my attempt to do so , ...  :o Where's the fuse for that cellphone charger ? Fuse rating & so forth , ... ???

I'll post photos of the finished project , ...   8)   Thank you !! Bless ...

the fuse is beside the outlet on the inside, on my downtown 300i,   I took the cover off and installed # 10 wire ( over kill )  from the battery with a dash fuse in the glove box,  I can plug any thing in it ,  you would need about 3 or 4 amp fuse for your use ,  any more and you need heavier wire ,  from the battery,

Unfortunately the fuseholder is underneath the front cover. Therefore you would have to remove the front fender, the front cover trim (the tie), the front cover and the front cover undercowling.
As a replacement fuse/fuseholder I recommend a better construction than given out of the factory. But this requires some soldering work with stronger wires also. And use a stronger fuse! 3Amps min., better 5Amps. Depends on what you want to do with the 12V socket in the end.

Why Kymco has choosen and is  s t i l l  choosing such a weak and stupid construction remains a miracle to me...  :o
Welcome to the 21. century Kymco...  ::)

Yes sure. Don´t hesitate to ask. I´ve done the job last summer on mine. It´s not difficult, just timeconsuming.

The most important thing to consider is to be very careful separating the plastic parts. Why? Because it´s brittle hardplastic and after the removal of the screws they still most probably stick together strongly and might break easily on just ripping apart with violence. So take care here and take your time. I also used some Sewing machine oil to reduce the friction between them. That helped a lot.

On the undercowling there are 4 plastic trimclips used also.... you can reuse them, if you remove them correctly. Push the pins gently through with a pintool of almost same diameter as the pins to the inside and don´t loose them! They will fall down somewhere. Most likely to the floor. But maybe not and you have to search for them behind the undercowling.

Number of screws:
12 on the back of the front cover
1 center bolt front cover (underneath the tie)
2 screws and 3 bolts for the fender
4 screws and 4 plastic trimclips on the undercowling

Once you have removed all parts it´s up to you to find and build a intelligent and propper solution for an easier access to this fuseholder in the future. There are many possibilities :-) And each of them will be better than what was there before. :-)

It's ridiculous that Kymco made the fuse panel so hard to get to. I had the same issue with my Genuine Buddy scoot and all I had to remove was the front panel and the fuse was right there.

No, no. That´s a severe misunderstanding.  ;)  The MAIN fuse "panel" is pretty quickly and  easily reachable in the battery compartment.

The ridicule starts with this poor 12V socket in the glove box.....  ::)

Nowadays in the 21th century / 3rd millenium a 0.5Amp or 0.7Amp (can´t remember) fused 12V socket in the glovebox "no vale para nada" .....  ;) 8)

For our iphones, ipads, android smartphones, whatever... we would need at least 1Amps or 1,5Amps without blowing that fuse immediately!

Kymco seems to be stubborn on three issues at least with the Like models:

1) The unnecessary lousy seat/saddle quality
2) The unnecessary annoying self glare issue with the headlight/high beam at night
3) The unnecessary weak 12V socket fuse problem

All three issues could be solved very easily with a minimum investment at the production line.  :-*
But Kymco for sure has reasons for not letting have one of it´s cash cows these three minor  nonexpensive improvements...  :o
Cheers,
Robo

Okay  ,  here's what's been done , .... There's a pair of 3/4" Blue LEDs on the Glove Box Door , powered by the Phone Charging Port ,  so they could be unplugged , ... these are on when the engine is running , .... Then there's a pair of those same lights under the bike ( front & rear ) wired right off the battery with a switch along with a pair of Blue & White LED Strips ... One at the rider's feet & the other behind the Front Fender  , these strips give the options; Blue & White On , White Only,  Blue Only & Off  ... This Scooter is really blingin' in the parking yards now & even has folks taking cell phone pictures of it  ,... & it's a whole lot more visible on the roads at night ! 8)
