2016 MXU 450I

Brand new MXU 450I, 2 hours old and the Transmission grenades. This is my first quad, and first Kymco. - I am not impressed to say the very least.

I wouldn't be to happy either! When you say transmission could you narrow it down some. Did the CVT nut come loose and destroy the CVT drive system? Belt break causing a no go situation or the actually transmission gears itself bust internally?

I guess for you it will come down to how they treat you at the dealer. Getting you back up and running. This is the first I have heard of such a incident. As Kymco gets bigger and more sales there is going to be the one here and there that slip by. Hopefully Kymco and your dealer will make it right!! So far I am stilling loving my 450i.

So put I the quad on a jack and lifted it i and  in 2x4. In order to start, it must me in reverse gear. When put in Neutral the transmission locks into gear and the wheels "Lock into gear".
Note - it is not rideable as it is locked into gear (like any other manual transmission would being in gear.) 
Perhaps the clutch is the issue? There is something for sure wrong and there is clinging and chinging in the drive train that is not audible in this video.

Regardless of root cause, it will need to go to the shop, and I will be without it for an unspecified period of time. I dont know what Kymco support will be like, but its anything like I have been reading, I will be even more disappointed with my choice.

I might be wrong but it looks like your selector rod that connects to the shifter has gotten out of adjustment, locking nuts came loose or was set wrong at the factory. My 450 became very finicky about finding reverse after a few break in miles. I adjusted the rod myself and have had no more since. On the post a few below by "Old Friend" he has the same issue as mine and his machine sorted itself out for the most part with no adjustment. Maybe the locking nuts on yours has become loose allowing it to unscrew throwing it completely out of adjustment?? I don't think you have a grenade on your hands unless there is something different going on. I used head phones and still could not hear what you are talking about as far as rattling/metallic sound. Which you stated it couldn't be heard on the video, I still tried. I am curious was the engine cold when you did the video? You should let it warm up some and idle down before you put it in gear or shift it from one gear to another. Just the same this should be an easy dealer sort if you don't feel like trying yourself.

I took it to the shop. I missed their call back and my wife answered. I guess something happened with the clutch and drive train, they have a few parts on order, but I will know tomorrow.

Hopefully they will have you up and running quickly. I am curious as to what they have to replace and what  happened. I only have 192 miles on my 2014. I bought it leftover a year ago. Except for two minor adjustments on my shifter rod it has been trouble free. Hopefully after this yours will be too!

Apparently something came apart in the clutch (a dog or something) and it basically seized the clutch engaged. They have ordered the new part and it should be in tomorrow.

Well, she's home from the hospital.  It was a failed sprag bearing that was the culprit. The bike does not shift worth a darn but the tell me that needs to break in. Example high range is between neutral and high instead of in the high position. other than that it seems to be going good.

Glad you have it back. Will it shift into reverse trouble free? Adjust the shifting rod if it doesn't sort out location soon.

When they are assembled at the factory their is no "breakin" to make them shift correctly, I would go right back to the dealer with it. If they can't fix it correctly I would call Kymco USA.  I have spoken with them about problems and they were very helpful.  I would tell your dealer to fix it correctly or you will call the factory.  Kymco does not want any bad publicity as they are growing to fast.

I could have mine adjusted before I could get to the dealer with it! But you are correct, the dealer should have adjusted it correctly before he left!
