Scooter Hating Vandals
« on: December 22, 2009, 08:39:07 PM »
Somebody hit my scoot or pushed it over today outside of the Mebane Wal-mart. I came outside after finishing my shopping only to find my scooter laying on its side. I parked in the yellow mess of lines near the handicapped parking, and chained it to a pole there, so it could've been someone in a car or someone on foot, I don't really know, but the only damage I can find is a break in the trim plastic below the passenger footrest, where it hit the ground when it fell over, and the scuff from what looks like being pushed across the pavement a little.

I don't really know what happened, and although there were at least 5 people that said, "I saw your scooter laying on the ground," they sure didn't see anyone do it!

At least they didn't slash my tires this time.

My old Piaggio NRG extreme was deliberately pushed onto the ground in front of the office where I worked in 2002. Tupperware was cracked and scratched, I have managed to glue it back and repaint. On two different occasions they stole rear view mirrors.

The same Piaggio was hand carried approx. 300 m from the place where it was parked, probably to be loaded onto a truck and stolen later that day, but I managed to find it before the plan worked.

Around year 2000 they dismantled and threw into the nearby trashcan rear view mirrors of my ex. Kymco Cobra Cross 50.
Left rear view mirror was stolen once.

The other Piaggio NRG mc2 was stolen in front of my sleeping room and found 2 months later in pieces. Miraculously, nothing was missing and 2 months later it was assembled back, even better than it was before.

Somebody pushed Agility 50 and leaned it to the wall, leaving a few scratches that I managed to polish.

Finally, two years ago I have encountered a few Gypsies (pack leader + 2-3 youngsters) while they were loading my ex. Piaggio Beverly 200 to the truck. This is when things became physical (but not in Barry White sense).

So, consider yourself lucky.

Wal-mart has cameras EVERYWHERE! I saw your avatar, somewhere else so I'm thinking getting a police report to allow wal-mart to review the footage isn't worth it. Might be the Mad-Max approach is though. Good thing Barry isn't around to see. If I had to leave my pride, and joy toy alone I would be a nervous wreck! Sometimes people really do su#k...!!!...

...that really sucks..I park my scoot amongst the uniform service lockers at work...well, we switched uniform suppliers a few weeks back, and when the old service removed their lockers, one of the guys tipped my scoot over..Busted the front instrument panel cowling, throttle end cap, even cracked my tail-pipe...not to mention the numerous scratches and gouges...they swear they didnt do it, but nobody else was in the area all day...we weren't using those lockers any more...

Sorry about your scoot, I worry about that very thing every time I leave my baby where I can't see it.  I can see people trying to steal a scooter, but the thought behind pushing one over just to damage it is beyond me.

I thought about the cameras when it happened, but didn't want to leave the scoot alone again to go back inside.  Plus, I've done a bit of loss prevention work and installed CCTV systems before, and the chances of finding who did it are slim anyway, even if they utilize high res cameras.  With having to screw with the police and all, I didn't think it would be worth it.  Not with the small amount of damage that was done anyway.

This is the second time I've had a scooter vandalized.  Last time they pushed over my Metropolitan and kicked in the fender and the underseat bucket, slashed the tires, broke my gas cap cover and broke off my rear brake handle.  The cops then didn't care and assumed I was only getting a police report for insurance purposes.  They made it clear they couldn't/wouldn't do anything.

This isn't new to me, I'm just glad that what happened is ALL that happened.

Only thing I can figure is they couldn't steal it so they pushed it over.  Jealous bastards.  Go buy your own Scooter!

The cops found my scooter when it was stolen. It took two months.
The scooter was in poor condition, but we have rebuilt it back to better state than it was when it was stolen.
However, considering what the police has to do as their daily work and that I live in Croatia, I think this was a success. :)

Don't agree with you on the people being scooter hating vandals.   Some people are ********.  Doesn't matter whether it is a nice Mustang,  a front porch window, a scooter, or even a career.  Some people are just out to ruin other people livelihoods.

I had someone try to steal my scoot they broke the steering lock and wheeled it away from my apartments behind one of the buildings took the front plastic off and tried to hotwire it cut some wires i guess they dropped it bc the control mech with the horn on it was broken and i was missing a bunch o screws from the front plastic.  I worked hard to buy my scoot why do people think they are owed these things.  I stayed up all night for a week straight watching it I even borrowed my brother in laws 12 gauge I wanted to make them sh** themselves.

I believe there are too many people in general. The more people, the more bad eggs. I like the scatter gun approach!
