Having leak examined coming out of clutch/variator housiing - any bets on how long til I get her back??  Will she be pristine or abused?

this is at 2k miles - oil or gear oil dripping out bottom of aluminum housing - not much but who needs oil in the belt area??

Hopefully it is just a faulty seal! A 1-2 hour job if they have the part. Axy's 250 was down for 2 months I believe because of a bad casting on the case. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I had exactly the same issue, oil dripping from the engine casing, and after a lot of troubleshooting, replacing gaskets, returning to the shop 4-5 times for troubleshooting etc. it ended up as a crack in the inside of the engine casing (manufacturing defect). So, now I have a new engine casing. It took approx 3-4 weeks for the parts to arrive. I wrote everything about that towards the end of "I just bought People 250S" thread.

If the scoot was not under warranty, it would set me back approx. 450 US$ for the parts + labour.

My dealer called and said he had opened the case up (where variator and clutch live) and found a leaking seal.  He said there was oil on the belts and clutch assembly as well.  Ordered some parts and hopefully I get her back next week).  So far so good.  He told me it is Kymco policy for dealer to diagnose problem withing 24 hours of drop off and have parts ordered in 48.  This is a great idea - I have read such good things about Kymco service.  I know Aprilia (Piaggio) was TERRIBLE - take your money and ignore you to death.  I will never buy another Aprilia - although I am riding my 200 Scarabeo ( had to keep it - didn't want to take a bath on its sale and its nice to have a backup) while the p250 is being worked on - it's not a bad little scooter, other than the terrible support given my the stateside sellers.

You know, I'm starting to see a pattern of "unhappiness" among New  scoot buyers. As far as scooters go we ALL have something that is better than the "Runn oft nun ov a kynd". III never thought a simple scooter would be soooo much fun. Let the factory fix what they will, and be thankfull it's not a waste of time/money! Hey Axy, Hows the G. H. ? Can he read yet?

I had EXACTLY the same issue. The mechanic ordered that very seal, replaced it and there was a leak again.

The problem was not in that seal, but in broken engine casing due to fabrication error. The oil was leaking inside the variator, over the seal, giving the impression that the shaft seal is leaking.

Everything ended after two months, a few more visits and replaced engine casing.

Advice: after he changes the seal, you should go to him again in 500-1000 kms to check the variator, and if there is again the leakage, print out my message and show it to him, along with the pictures of cracked casing I posted on the forum.

Kymco has accepted all parts and work related costs without hesitation.

little over a week has gone by - dealer DOES NOT have parts in yet.  I am thinking this is gonna suck.

I have found Kymco USA to take a week to 10 days on most parts. That has nothing to do w/ when the dealer orders them. I sure HOPE they nail it down quickly for you. Listen to axy, and either print a copy, or look it up at the dealer. He had his seal changed too. Maybe 8 eyes are better than the mechanics 2, and they will give you the attention a paying customer deserves!

Parts came in and were replaced today - just a tad over a week - not bad.  I will definitely let them know about the hole in the engine case if I keep leaking - hopefully this isn't the case - if so be sure I will post it here.  Now it's raining!!  Have to wait to go get it.  Come on sunshine.  My aprilia scarabeo 200 (chinese, but hidden - freakin crooks) has been hauling me around quite adequately for the kymco down time - glad I kept her.

the scooter has been home for about a week now - no problems with leaking - so far - hopefully the problem is fixed.  Still fretting over my little rubber covers on the floor board and waiting for the 2 screws the mechanic didn't have a spot for - so he put them in his toolbox.  Doesn't make me happy that it would be ok for him to have left over parts and no know what to do with them - then just throw them in his tool box???  BAD BAD.  Not sure I mentioned - they replaced the seal, the belt and the clutch pads.

You should have a "new" feeling scoot, w/ the belt, and pads. Maybe your mechanic is looking to take home a scooter 1 piece at a time? Just can't figure where that windshield wiper mounts!

I was thinking this morning - the scooter is running excellent - i think break in is over at 2k - it hauls.
