Just bought a Super9 today. Not sure where it stands.
« on: February 21, 2010, 07:46:17 AM »
Just picked up a 2005 Super9 LC from a Socal native today for 1500. Not sure if I overpaid but Zumas go for about 1200 bucks around here but I heard the Super9 was the best 50cc Two-stroke out of the box. It was hard to get in and out from the minivan but I finally got it home. I just threw my helmet on, kick-started it and took off. There are a lot of hills around me so I wanted to see what it could do. I am guessing that the previous owner had this thing dialed in since it had a technigas exhaust and could do about 50+ on the flat straight (Though I was ringing it to redline at 8500+ RPMs). I am guessing that is good for a stock Super 9 with bolt-ons from what I have read but my friends are into the whole extended swingarm 150cc swapped Ruckus movement and their bikes seem so much faster albeit they probably have 10K into the bike. Other than the 70cc kits out there, is this pretty much what the Super9 will do? I still want to keep it reliable so I just need to manage expectations. This is the first two wheeled vehicle I have owned since I looped my sportbike in 02 and the wife said NO MORE bikes for you buddy. I only convinced here because I said it was automatic and that she didn't need a license to ride it.

Congrats on the scoot! The 9 is my personal favorite. 50mph is what you can expect w/ most of the bolt on mods done. A 70cckit will add 2-3 mph. Minor jug porting another 1-2. get into jetting, and gears you can get another 10mph. 65 is about tops without getting into serious maintenance issues. 8500 rpm's is not bad for your scoot. it can actually run comfortable up to 11'500. Start riding, and figure where you want to improve performance. I have an 04 zx super fever that does 62-64mph, and cruises at 50 all day. I am turning around 8'000 at 50, and 11'000 at 60+. I'm the third owner, and ride every day. They can be reliable if you take your time fitting the right parts. Keep posting cause there is a lot of info that can help IF you want to take it a little further.

Thanks for the quick reply and information. Here are some pictures of how she looks:

The previous owner just cleaned her up of all the unnecessary parts and went for the stealth look. The blue technigas pipe actually matches my Suomy "Ben Bostrom 05" helmet perfectly. This was what I prefer all my vehicles to be, just a clean look with some nice accent pieces such as the red calipers and blue exhaust.

I know a number of cases where wife told a husband that he is not allowed to do this or that, especially buy a bike or a car or engage in some fun activities, even go to the gym! It happened to a number of my friends too.

I fail to understand why would anybody allow themselves to tell other people what to do, and even more, why men so readily comply to be p****-whipped, and even share that kind of shame with others, especially in cases where they want to spend their own money after taking care of the household bills, savings etc. Furthermore, this bike/scoot/car can be used not only by one member of the family, it can be quite useful to others too.

No flame intended, just something I have been wondering for a long, long time.

I hear what you are saying, I get it all the time at work but it is all white noise at this point. Guys will bitch and complain all day about how they can't do this or they can't do that but the truth of the matter is that we enjoy being restrained because it makes us feel that someone gives a sh**. Also once we do get our way for once it makes the victory that much sweeter.

Hi socal,

I am glad you understood I was not flaming you, just wanted to comment.

I can understand what you`re saying. However, I have even better idea how to show to us that they care.

They can, for example, chip in and give half a money for the toy we want... or pay for registration... or buy some accessories.

In my book, that would be "showing they care", not trying to control and boss around, such things can only provoke retaliatory action on my part...

To get back on the topic, nice scoot... I like the non-glossy black color, it is my favorite. I like the "dark simple" look.
There is Piaggio Beverly 250 in that color... not many scoots around that are factory "black-stealth"...

Few years ago most companies used disastrous "sporty-full-of-stickers-and-ads-5-color" look that suited children below 10 years of age... especially on smaller scoots. Now I see the trend reversing towards single-color-no-stickers look that suits me well.

After all, I am an older gentleman with fine taste... :)
