2007 xciting 500 update
« on: April 26, 2010, 05:16:00 PM »
:)Just had my 07 xciting 500 shipped in from south Ill to my home in Arizona, so I thouhgt I would let everyone know how it has worked out so far. It is the peach yellow color. Had 7,250 miles on it, and is in about as new condition as you can get. I road it about 200 miles over the week end, so here is what I think of it so far. I met the shipper at about 9PM, un loaded the bike and the battery was dead? Great. Jump started it, it fired right up, but when I tryed to give it gas to make it start to move it would just spit and die. The dealer I had bought it from said it had set all winter so I was not surprized, but it would have been nice if they had at least charged up the battery before it was picked up! I met the shipper in a home depot parking lot, so I was about 5-6 miles from home! Finally I started it and just let it idle for about 10 minutes. Then I pushed it a little, jumped on and road it around the parking lot for abour 10 minutes. It wanted to stall often, but I was able to keep it running. After the 10 minutes or so I stopped and low and behold it did not stall! So I took a chance and road it home, and had my wife drive me back to pick up the car. It took several minutes for it not to want to stall the next morning. Same thing the next morning also, but not as bad. Sunday morning it did not want to stall at all! So I guess the carb jet's cleaned themselves up by running it with new gas? I installed a new 2009/10 seat (much more comfortable) and away we go. It runs perfect, is quite, fast and I am getting about 50mpg. The ride is great, but I may get a Givi windshield for more protection? Yes the speedo is off by about 5-7 miles an hour, and I wish the MPH was in the large letters, not the small. And also the odometer should be in MPH not KPH? It is very comfortable, smooth, and handles freeway speeds as if it were nothing. It's like riding a gold wing as far as I am concerned. In short I love it, and you could not pry it out of my hands with a crow bar. The only problem I have found is that the oil light stays on? The oil dip stick says it is topped off full, so I guess it's just a stuck oil pressure sending unit. This seems to be a common problem according to the forum post. Sissy Mary.

http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx   They can get one out to you in a few days. I would add a little Sea Foam over the next few tanks just to be sure the carb. is all shinny new!

Mash the mode button on the left hand of the instruments.  Odometer will go to miles.  I think you get options of a couple of trip meters with that button too.

Please be sure to post with whatever performance upgrades you do too, Sissy.  Will be reading that with much interest.  Hoolander.

Oh, and we need to see pictures of it.   ;D

And, hey.  Just remembered!  Reset the oil light by pressing the reset button on the right hand side of the instruments.  Use a pen or pencil or similar since it's recessed.

By the way, congratulations on your new scooter!  I'm loving mine, which is the same year as yours.  I've had it not quite 3 months.

The guys and gals on this forum have been a great help to me already.  One wonderful thing I learned was that the windshield can be easily remounted in a lower position.  I like it in this lowered position -- seems to direct the air flow in a more desirable way at my helmet.  Less noisy.  And I like seeing the road through only my face shield instead of shield AND windshield.  I suppose that any aftermarket windshield could be mounted in either position too -- depending on whether the mirrors hit it.

I didn't get a tool kit with mine -- just a spark plug wrench.  I inquired at a local Honda/Kawasaki dealer about shock adjusting tool and they poked around in the back and GAVE me one.

Mine runs great, but will sometimes hesitate during the few seconds between when it's warm but not quite fully warmed up.  Even stalled once or twice but restarted easily.  I just have to think about that when heading out into traffic when I know it's not fully warmed and not gas it too much.

One other thing.  That is, occasionally, I've been fooling around in parking lots by quickly leaning the scooter from side to side at slow speed just for fun and to get the feel of handling.  Doing that seems to want to make it stutter also.  I wonder if that's the angle sensor doing that.  Don't know.

Those are pretty minor things, though, and overall I enjoy it very much as I see you are yours.

I don't believe I've seen or heard of the color you describe yours as.  Sounds very nice.  Would love to see it.  Pics, please!

How did you adjust the stock windshield, already installed an R wind screen yesterday but would really like to know how you adjusted yours.

ts1, who is a member here, was nice enough to inform me how to to it.

You take off the four bolts holding the black plastic cosmetic cover.  That cover then comes off by gently prying with your hands where it clips on.  Then four hex head bolts holding the windshield itself.  Then four more bolts holding the windshield holder.

Then you see four unused holes which are lower which can be used for the lowered position if you wish.  EDIT: actually the 4 unused holes are in the holder itself.  Just use them instead of the ones the bolts are currently in.

I had to slightly spread the holder with my hands while installing and tightening those first four bolts when putting the holder in the lowered position so the windshield bolts would line up properly.  Not much, but the windshield bolts didn't line up perfectly unless I did that.

One thing is, though, when I needed to take off my front fairing to do some service, I found the fairing wouldn't come off with the windshield in this lower position so had to take it off to get fairing off.
