Agility not starting
« on: May 10, 2010, 04:32:29 PM »
Hi
I just bought a Kymco Agility 2 weeks ago. It was running fine till the other day when my dad took it out. It cut out and wouldnt start back up, so he pushed it home. I took it all apart and made sure that it was getting a spark and there was no blockage in the fuel. Everything seems to be fine.
I even replaced the spark plug to make sure.
I then finally got it running, all i did was take the carb off, press the elctric start, then put the carb back on :S
It was running but when i took it out, it would just bog down every time i opened the throttle properly. It would get up to 10mph normally, then bog down an then slowly reach around 28mph flat out on flat roads. Usually on flats it will do near 40mph.
I have tried everything on it, i even cleaned out the jets to make sure they wernt blocked.
now i cant get it running again.
I sprayed petrol into the engine and then put the spark plug back in, still nothing.
I would take it to the motorcycle shop that the person i bought my Agility from got it new. But thats about 10 miles away and i cant walk it there.
Any ideas on how i can get it running?

Soooo many possible things. Taking off the carb. generally shows it was flooded. It may be the auto choke is stuck open. Try installing a new plug, and checking the auto choke. In the general thread there are links to your service manual. I believe it will show how to test the choke. Also check/clean the air filter. Gasoline will work fine to rinse it out. Thanks for your help Zombie.

I managed to get it up and running again and took it out for a nice long ride. It all seems good now, other than it struggles to hit over 32mph without it being downhill, even if the road is flat.

Off subject a little, on my variator, do i have to have that lip on the centre bit taken off for it to be fully de-restricted?

Also what would be the best size jet, as i am running a K&N air filter. Doesnt seem to be having any problems with it, but i read that it should be changed for a bigger jet?

cheers

http://webservices.motorsportdealers.com/parts/partImages/KYM/2/03/03/0017.Gif   Part # 22105 is ths variator boss. The collar you see must be machined off to allow full range of the var. W/ that done 45mph-ish is what you should expect. You can buy a boss for approx. 35. bucks or get yours machined off for approx 10-15 bucks. You should increase the main jet approx 2-3 steps larger for the new filter. I am surprised you are running at all as the filter will usually lean the fuel mix to the point it will melt the piston. Read up on doing some plug chops to set the correct jet size, and we are always happy to help along the way. What was it that got you running again?

Thanks for the help.

i havnt changed the jet on it, whether the last owner did, im not sure.

Thats good, i can get my neighbour to do it for free :D

My parents bought me it 2 weeks ago, a few days after i passed my cbt.

Its a 56 plate (2006) did have 6200km on the clock, but now 2 weeks later has 7600km.

At the moment ive only taken off the rev limiter, and im going to get the lip on the boss taken off then change the rollers and jet.
