Squawking from New Belt
« on: March 07, 2016, 04:41:26 PM »
Prepping the 2013 Super8 for sale and I put a new OEM CVT belt on. Test rode it (1 mile) and it was fine. I got on it the other day after cleaning "Bandit" all up and upon acceleration I'd get some loud squawking from the clutch area. It would come out of it if I let off the throttle and not appear at all if I slowly accelerated. I opened it up and retorqued the variator nut to make sure it was correct. Also took some brake cleaner to the belt contact areas on the clutch and variator. Went away but I don't want this showing up again as I'm going to sell the scoot. I want a good product going out the door. Ever heard of this sort of thing?

Turn up the radio real loud......or put in a Bruce Springsteen tape...when selling.
Remove spark plug. ..show buyer the new one under the seat.....tell him your wife didn't have a chance to install it yet....so take $10 off asking price.
I learned these tricks from my local dealer.
Good luck Wayne

Rode it 15 miles on Sat and all was well. Yeah I'm going to post it on CL. Makes me nervous. Money transaction will take place at my bank and they will verify the funds before signing of bill of sale.

Hey Wayne. Everything is probably just fine. New belts take a few miles to "bed in." I compliment you on your concern for selling a problem free machine. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

I would worry more about being lynched when someone shows up to buy your bike! CL has been famous, it seems, for either seller or buyer for being harmed. Just a thought......

No bites on the Super8 after 9 days except for the occasional CL scammer. Belt is fine now. If I don't sell by the end of the week then ins has to go back on it. Hell maybe even a lic plate and a perm place in the garage (don't tell the wife).
