Electricall Issue
« on: February 25, 2016, 03:51:58 PM »
Dunno if anyone have faced similar problems, but maybe tehre is someone who has and can help.

My '11 DT, with about 17,5k miles on it recently started to surprise me with some electrical problems. In particular, after a 10 miles ride my main lights (HID) start to blink or even turn off, sometimes the battery read light goes on. However, the battery is in good shape and well charged.

Yesterday, while i was riding home from work, out of nowhere the engine stalled. It didnt wanted to start up (however, i could hear the fuel pump working after swithing on the "kill switch" and the starter was spinning the engine). It seemed like the injector does not work or something. However, after a while the engine started, but after another few miles it stalled again. Again i couldnt start if for about 20 mins. After that, it started again, but this time the check engine amber lamp appeared. At home i red out the engine code 66 (CPS mallfunction). Today, i went to my garage to check out the scoot, the code 66 still appears, however the engine starts up normally.

Anybody any idea? It all seems to me like an electrical issue (short circuit somewehere, or a damaged cabble). I am going to stripe the bike during the weekend and try to check the cables / connections, but maybe someone has any idea there to start.

Regards,
Peter

the only time I had trouble is when I accidently touched the kill switch, at a stop light, took a while to see the switch was off, I didn't do it, must have been a gremblin,

Every once in a while my DT will stall, but it's usually in the first five minutes of a ride. Once it's nice and warmed up , it's fine. I'm guessing voltage regulator.

Today i manage to stripe the bike from all the plastic covers. After a long while of checking cables and connections i found out, that when the bike stalls and does not wan to start again (this happens randomlly - no rule, once it starts and runs an hour, once it does not start) i found out that the problem is lack of spark on the plug... (but after some time it happens to be there again). Now i dont know if its the inductive coil or maybe something else? Inductive coil seem the firts think caming to mind, however i dont one to buy one (dunno the cost) just to find out it doesnt help at all. Any ideas what else it could be?

Check all ground points: take all apart, clean each lug and reconnect. Use dielectric grease on each lug. Unplug every connector and put dielectric grease into each female terminal, replug. This will be good insurance even if it does not fix the problem. This will be easy since you have all the "tupperware" removed. Others have found problems with the spark plug cap so check that for good contact. Let us know what works.

  sensor
code 66 ,.    loose or poor connection on cps ,.  open or short circuit on cps wire,   faulty cps sensor,  that is what I see in the book,.

Crossbolt - did it alredy, didnt help however the likghts stopped blinking (i resolvew another issue;).
Dee dee, i know about that error, also error 37 came once - coil isse, however, after cleaning all and reseting the errors - no more error apearts but the starting problem remains (no spark - and its not the spark plug - i checked that).

Yes, i thing that could be the case. I think i will have to look after a new inductive coil. If thats not it I dont even want to think what it could be - CDU or another costly thing...;/. I should add that the problem developed after the scooter was parked outside in a very humid day with temps between -2 - 5 *C

Today i have replaced the inductive coil and unfortunetly IT didnt help. The scooter still tend to stall after a while running and later on it fail to start until it completly cools down...

A short update to the issue: 99% sure its te crankshaft possition sensor... While the engine is cool, it has the resistance of about 115 Ohms - in compliance with the service manual. However, when hot (when the engine stalls and fails to operate due to lack of spark) it shows 0. Unfortunatelly, I was told by my local Kymco dealer, that this sensor comes as one piece with the electric generator and costs about 100$.. + service will be 150-200$. On monday i will take the scoot to the shop. When it will be back i will write here the final outcome.

the crank position sensor, is that the pulsar coil, I cant tell from the picture if it is,  the picture of the stator shows a item attached to the harness, and it looks like it could be the position sensor,
stator   D402   31120   $83.04   at     powersports warehouse.com  good luck with fixing it,.

This Stanley Cup has nothing to do with this thread, Morgan. Did you do this or were you hijacked?
