Having owned several Goldwings I can tell you that the larger Maxiscooters come closer to some of the Goldwing features such as onboard storage, freeway friendly and rider comfort. There is a vast difference however in comfort comparing an air ride system to conventional shocks. Goldwing riders can and do easily ride 500-1000 miles per day. Many Iron Butt riders ride a GW with an extra fuel cell. For riding comfort few bikes equal the GW. BTW, the weight of the GW is essential for touring and needs to weigh 900+ pounds as that's what keeps the bike planted and comfortable for long distance touring. That's why a #630 pound Burgman 650 works well as a touring scooter.

The whole scooter vs motorcycle debate is fun to talk about, but kind of like talking about which kind of car is best - a sports car, family sedan, or SUV.  You can spend 200k on a supercar that gives you performance and looks, but has no room for luggage, can't handle a gravel road (Ouch!), and has a stiff, unforgiving suspension.  Someone who lives on a farm in Kansas with 3 kids would find this car totally frivolous and would opt for the SUV.  Better to just ride what you like and like what you ride.  For myself, I like everything on 2 wheels, even the little push Razor scooters - LOL.

Amen to that.
Some of the best fun I ever had was riding an MZ TS150 which I got used for roughly the same price as the cost of a weeks groceries.
It wasn't in good nick and it wasn't pretty, but my neighbour also had one and we had an absolute hoot riding them together.

For long distance highway riding, it's hard to beat a wing.  However, not everyone has the same concept of touring.  This is my idea of touring:

If I need to do 500-1000 miles per day with my wife, I'll just do this:

I Ride Therefore I Am

I think someone in this forum had said it before, but I think it’s worth mentioning. A scooter is a good alternative to a car, while a motorcycle isn’t. That’s one of the main reasons I went with a scooter from the beginning of my interest in riding. Motorcycles, generally off the factory floor, don’t have the storage I needed for my commute without adding top cases, or panniers, but even then they don’t beat the convenience of running boards. Gas milage and insurance tend to be better too for scooters.

If I want to go fast a motorcycle is the choice. After that there’s not much I feel they can offer.
