Variator Nut

On my Xciting 500 the variator nut is quite large (not bragging  ). I'm having trouble finding a socket that will fit it. What other tool would you reccomend?

Hey Wayne. I would try Harbor Freight for a socket if you can. If not, try a 4-way metric automobile tire lug wrench. They are relatively cheap and you could always use it in your car.

It is  a 27mm metric.
That is according to my impact wrench socket.

Nothing on ebay for the socket? The Harbor?
Big crescent or channel locks, pipe wrench....but cheaper is socket probably.
I toss the nuts and replace with new ea. time. Less than $2....and never in there more than once a year.

Can I use an impact socket with my regular socket driver?

You absolutely can Wayne.  If you have a Harbor Freight nearby, take a look at their electric impact wrenches. They are not that expensive and man do they make removing the variator nuts easy. Just dont use them to put the nuts back on. Good luck man!

45 miles to the Harbor Freight but that sounds like a good ride to me.

I just picked me up the impact wrench from harbor freight a week ago. I love it works great. I seen sockets as big as 30 mm there.

I purchased the electric impact wrench there also. One of the best purchases I have made! I use it for my scooter, car lugs, auto repairs, etc.

I use a Chinese electric impact wrench and never have any problem to re-and-re variator & clutch nuts.  Any auto/farm parts supply dealer has the impact sockets.

I hooked up my 12V Harbor Freight cheapo impact to a 12V scooter battery that I had sitting around.
It removed both CVT nuts without a problem. Saw a guy on youtube hooking his 12V impact to his wife's small car battery (do NOT start the car!)
My little scooter battery knocked the nuts right off my Burgman.
Surprised me!
