Scooter not working properly at WOT.
« on: July 11, 2016, 06:45:09 PM »
While riding my A50 i realised, that at 3/4 throttle the scooter goest at about 60 to 65km/h (37.5 to 40.6), but at full throttle the scooter drops to 55 km/h (34) and the drop in speed is quite noticable. The previous owner claims that the scooter was going at around 70km/h (43.75) before this started happening. What could be the causes and where should i look for the problem?  ???

Pull your plug & look at the color on the electrode. Dark brown, or black is running rich, light tan, grey or white is lean If lean you should hear the exhaust popping at wide open throttle. If lean clean the carb paying attention to the holes in the jets, & small holes in the emulsion tube of the pilot jet. Look for restrictions/small grains in the holes. This can be a result of ethanol gas. Try to use non-ethanol gas if possible. Check the float level also. If rich again clean the carb check float level & if hollow foats shake them to see if you can hear gas sloshing inside, if you can they have a leak. Replace the float Black sponge floats push your finger on it if you see a wet impression around you finger it's water/gas logged replace the float. Also test the choke/auto by-starter which would cause the bike to run rich if defective. Hope this helps!

Would not hurt to check your air filter. Could be starving for air.

Cleaned the carb, but this still occurs. Spark plug was dark brown. Ordered a set of jets and new air and gas filters. Gonna fiddle around with the jetting next week to see if it helps.

Back from my vacation. Parts still have not arrived, but i decided to change the gear oil. The tube i bought had 150 mililiters of oil, but on the scooter it says 0.18l, so im missing 30 mililiters. Is it safe to drive the moped if im missing the 30 mililiters?

Check your auto-by-starter /choke. Hook an ohm meter between the two leads. You should have 10 ohms max. If you don't have a ohm meter you can hook it to the battery & watch/or measure it, the needle It should very slowly move outwards could take a minute or two.
