Found a good long stretch of level road to go WOT
« on: July 31, 2016, 04:14:44 AM »
While out riding today I found a stretch of road that was level so I could compare indicated top speed to GPS top speed. The speedometer on the Like was roughly 62/63 mph to the 60.1 mph on the GPS app on my iPhone.

Your finding sounds about right for your stature and weight. (anyone who has happily lived with the stock seat for 13,000 miles is not a monster of a guy)
I also see that the speedo reading on my LIKE200i is about 2 to 3 mph optimistic each day when I pass through the speed trap sign while going various speeds. (interestingly - when I had to go one size larger tire after the flat on the Forza the Honda speedo became dead-on-the-$ accurate - checked thru all 3 speed traps in town)

OK, now enough of that hot-rodding. Take off a sixteenth or an  eighth of a throttle turn....and let the engine live to see 25K.
Thanks for the report.
(no worries about those other scooters - they always go faster, farther, better or longer than ours - regardless of engine size or make)

That's a pretty good speed. I have gotten to 60 GPS on my LX on straight and level roads.  That was with new sliders and no head wind. The red one barely makes 56.

It's not a speed I want to maintain as I enjoy cruising the Like between 35 and 45 mph when I'm out riding. WOT from time-to-time is fun and just on occassion show-up doubters who pass me on 35 mph roads thinking I'm a slug and taking up their road.  ;D

My next scooter I'll probably go for a 300CC or higher model, but then again I do love the ride of the Like. I wish Kymco would come out with a 300 cc version of the Like. Right now I'm looking at the Vespa GTS 300 as my only option as I really like the classic (retro) styling.

Good morning Trout...
I like the classic scooter look as well....but many of the modern maxis as well.
You will love the Vespa. ...does it have maxi size wheelbase...ABS and traction control?
The maxi wheelbase and weight makes for a smooth confident ride experience once out of town. Never thought I would be comfortable cruising empty interstate at 65/70 but I am.
Walking up to a new Vespa each morning will be a treat.....what color?

Piaggio did a great job adding ABS and traction control (ASR) to the newer GTS line. I like the standard GTS with its available rear rack. The cosmetics of the other two GTS models are not accessories that I need, the rack is useful so the standard model gets my vote. Plus it comes in midnight blue.

That midnight blue on the GTS is sweet. I would prefer a darker seat than the tan one that comes with it. I was so tempted recently to pull the trigger on the silver GTV, but i couldnt get pass the $1200.00 additional dealer mark up above msrp. After reading posts on MV, I understand that the split seat is very uncomfortable as well. I am always on the look out for a used gts.

I'm not thrilled about the colr scheme for the seat either. I definetly would swap it out for another.

That's a crazy markup. My dealer adds $485 to the price, but I've heard they can be talked down or even not taken out of the deal.
