PUIG TS and TG windshields
« on: August 09, 2016, 01:49:54 PM »
This has been EDITED and corrected.

Ordered via EBAY a TG model #5593W they shipped me a TS model #6848W.
OK, the only difference between the two is the TG is larger.
The mounting hardware is the same.

The screen and hardware appear to be of good quality.

Problem with the mounting bracket, the holes for the re-located mirror mounts are greater than 10mm unthreaded.  The GTI mirrors bolt ends are 10mm x 1.25.   They did not ship part #16 M10 x 1.25 nut.

I went to the hardware store and got 10mm x 1.25 nuts and lock washers.  I will use some plastic tubing to fill the too large mounting bracket hole.   IMO, you could probably wind dental floss around the mirror bolt end to fill and tighten the mounting.

Elegant solution! Pure genius! We got a Puig Urban for wife's People GTi300 since she is pretty short. Good screen with good hardware but the offset brackets each had 10 and 8 mm holes and both needed to be 10 mm. Mr. Dremel took care of that!

Instead of floss, how about Teflon tape. I use it for pipe fittings all the time.

Just as an add-on.  The width of the TS screen is about 1" short on both sides of the black plastic trim on the handlebars.  The TG is wider and would be at or slightly beyond the same black plastic.  Note, these are tall windscreens, I did a lot of cutting (at least 4" ) in height.  I am 5'7" with a 29" inseam.  You can slide up/down the windshield on its post about 1& 1/2" safely.

Place a lock washer on both the windshield and mirror mounts.  There are four pivoting piecies/angles on this setup and you just can't tighten these well without the lock washers.  My mirrors (used the Downtown lighted ones as DRLs) have two pivot points, the windshield mount is another and the actual windshield is another.
