Upgrading my Yager 200i to Downtown 300? or Xciting?

Guys, I plan to upgrade my Dink 200i (Yager) to something bigger.

Somehow after i do long distance ride around the country, i feel i need something bigger. We can't go to highway here, but Korean drive really fast even in the non expressway (speed limit is 55, but they drive 75 most of the time).

Here in Korea, Downtown 300 and Xciting R 300i price are almost similar. I'm more leaning to Downtown 300i, i feel Downtown 300i are way faster than any 300cc and even some 400cc scooter like Burgman 400. I do a short test drive for several scooters (Majesty 400, Burgman 400, SYM Maxsym 400, Aprillia Atlantico 300) and i ended up with Kymco again.

Xciting:
+ Better Cornering ability
+ Feels much more planted to the road
+ Front fascia looks awesome
+ Adjustable back rest for front rider
- Slower
- Less storage space

Downtown:
+ It's super light
+ Powerful Engine
+ Storage
+ I like how the 300 version come with Tyre Pressure Monitor, just like what car have
- Leaning angle
- Ergonomic wise it feels weird, cramped leg room, the distance between grip and brake handle are too far.
- Seat feels a bit weird.

Xciting R 300i only cost 100 bucks more than Downtown 300i
I'm small asian with 5′10″ and 72kg.

Vince, I used to have a Yager and now ride a DT300i. Very happy! I must warn you: The US version DOES NOT HAVE A TPMS! It has a button that says TPMS but it is not connected to anything. Have fun making up your mind! Kymcos are hard to beat!

Yager has about a 65 mph limit whereas the DT is about 80 for bursts. The DT does what the Yager does plus a little but seems to do it easier. It is not as light but seems about as nimble. I vote the DT for cruising. The DT is a little more straight-forward as EFI is concerned.

I saw your PM but answered here since there will be more inputs, I am sure. Last time I was in Taiwan was about 69-70 and I am quite sure the roads have improved since.

I agree with Karl. I went from a Yager to a DT as well (though more along the hard way) and I couldn't be happier. I miss my flat running boards, and digital speedometer, but I've no regrets on my new choice. The DT opened many more riding possibilities that were a challenge to a Yager.

This Tuesday I'm riding from Philadelphia to Ottawa, Canada on my DT while documenting it with with several mounted cameras. Would never have thought about doing any of that on my Yager.

Also, the brake grips on the DT can be adjusted if they feel too wide or far for you.

I too, thought the digital speedo on the Yager was the cat's behind until I rode! Trying for steady speed drove me NUTZ! That thing seemed to freeze after about 2-3 seconds and would change only if you varied +/- 3 mph. Tough to ride lead in formation. All else was great! Glad to see analog on the DT.

Never thought about it that way, Karl. Sometimes it’s hard to see the read out of the analog speedometer on the DT, but only at low speeds. I read somewhere that the digital speedometer on the Yager is pretty accurate.

At 5'10" from the General Consensus it seems the gray area of the limits of riding comfortably on a DT. I'm 5'10". I sat on a DT at the dealership several months ago. And I believe that I would feel cramped on a hour long drive. Mainly due to 1. The solid unadjustable butt stop. And 2. The useless front foot rests. When I had my Xciting and my Majesty, I could shift the  position of my feet from the floor to the front footrest from time to time on a longer ride. And I adjusted the backrest to an optimum position. I my opinion, a comfortable riding position takes precedence over nearly anything else.

That said, only YOU know what feels good to YOU.

I'm about 5'11", but I've never had any butt or back issues with the DT's seat. i've taken her on a 2 hour trip and was fine. Granted, sitting in any seat for a while will cause your backside to get sore. I do agree that the upper footrest of the DT is pretty much useless, unless you're under 5' 9", or 5'7", but that may place a rider on the threshold between being able to sit and hold up the bike. That's just a guess on my part.

I'm 5'10 and took it on a 280 mile round trip with no comfort issues - in fact it was less tiring than the last motorcycle I took on the same excursion. The ocassional 'one at a time' leg stretch extension helps and it also gives you a cooling breeze up the leg of your jeans.

Saying that, it would be an absolutley perfect scoot if there was just a little more legroom, but it's more than made up for by the comfy seat, the excellent wind deflection (I have a Givi screen) and the automatic gearbox.
