Would you buy this Kymco?
« on: October 09, 2016, 02:48:42 AM »
I went to the Barber Vintage Festival today and as always saw a lot of really cool stuff. This was my third straight year going. I was surprised to see that Kymco was there this year.

They had an interesting bike there I had not seen before.

It's a little small, but I definitely like it. I've been looking to buy something else , besides my DT 300.. I would definitely check that out if it was available near me.

My first thought was that this was Kymco's answer to the Grom and the new Kawasaki 125.  I guess it is but there are some differences.  The Grom and Kawasaki are both 125cc and four speeds.  This is 150cc and 5 speed.  It also has a more retro styling.  It also seems to be a little bigger and more comfortable than the Grom.  I haven't sat on the Kawasaki.  I'm 6-2 and didn't feel cramped on this bike and the seat felt pretty comfortable.

I did Chat with the Kymco rep for a while.  Nice guy and interesting to talk with.  I got his Email and told him I would forward links to the threads I started on this bike so this is your chance to post your inputs.  I started also started a thread similar to this one on ADV: http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/new-kymco-for-the-usa.1179196/

Its just not for me. All of the disadvantages of a small motorcycle with none of the advantages of a scooter. No weather protection, no storage, no simple cvt transmission. I would feel like a circus bear on a small bicycle on that thing. To each his own though.....

Me too, me too! My opinion on their creation is, "Whoopee!" Nice kinda traditional, like the Royal Enfield 500cc made in India and the Suzuki Boulevard (I think). Really enthused they would even consider such a design. I do not want a stable of bikes for my own reasons BUT something like this in a 300 would be a real possible!

Slip the K-Pipe's bigger wheels on there and it would look more like a motorcycle....and less like somebody put scooter wheels on your bike while you were in Walmart buying a battery tender.
Motorcycles are not meant to be grocery haulers. That's what  mom's MiniVan is for. Shoot - you can hardly carry a muffin on most Vespas ...and they've been selling OK.
I love shifting....like the control it offers. The braking with the engine, the shifting --- the cornering - the fact that you are required to do something - not just point and shoot! Keeps my head in the game when I ride my son's CB500X.
Weather protection ?- never felt protected on my scoots. Wind is wind, rain is rain. Cold is cold. You dress for it. At least on a bike I'd feel some warmth from an engine!
But yes, to each his own. (just go for the ABS)

Does look like it would be a fun city bike and I do like the retro styling, especially the tank badge.

Looks good but would have to sit on it before I would make a concrete decision.  200-300cc engine would make me get out of my Movie
